Bloomfield, N.J. - Georgian Court University, taking the floor for a third-straight day and coming off Saturday's impressive 85-66 home win over Caldwell University, closed out a busy weekend with a Sunday visit to Bloomfield College. The Lions, perhaps showing a bit of fatigue, dropped an 89-47 decision to the host-Bears in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) men's basketball action.
The setback puts GCU at 2-4 (2-4 CACC) on the year while Bloomfield moves to 6-3 (6-3 CACC) on the shortened campaign.
Trailing the Lions, 5-3, early into the first half (18:18) the Bears pounced for a 39-17 run to create a healthy 42-22 surplus heading into intermission. Bloomfield never looked back as the home team led by no less than 22 points the rest of the way, and closed the contest with a 42-point cushion.
Tariq McKenith (Sr.-Newark, N.J.) and
Isaiah Sparks (So.-Ewing, N.J.) paced the Bears' offense, netting 13 and 12 points, respectively.
Rich Chapman (Sr.-Newark, N.J.) and
Tony Godwin (So.-North Plainfield, N.J.) followed with 11 and 10 points apiece in the win.
As for Georgian Court,
Shane Williams topped the Lions' scoring column with eight points.
Davon Floyd,
Alonzo Ortiz-Traylor, and
Clint Wright, Jr. each poured in seven points in the setback.
GCU takes a day off before returning to the home hardwood Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.when the Lions host Concordia College. The royal and gold edged the Clippers, 59-58, in the squads' previous meeting, Feb. 6 in Bronxville, N.Y.Â
