Rutherford, N.J. - Georgian Court University opened Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) women's volleyball play Wednesday afternoon with a 3-0 (25-23, 25-18, 25-20) road triumph over host-Felician University.
The victory, GCU's second of the season (2-2, 1-0 CACC), marks the Lions second-consecutive straight-set "W" as the royal and blue also shutout Dominican College on the road Sunday in what counted as a non-conference tilt. Georgian Court is now 15-0 all-time vs. the Golden Falcons (0-1, 0-1 CACC), which took the floor for the first time since falling to Holy Family University, 3-2, in a five-set thriller in the 2019 CACC Championship Tournament semifinals.
Georgian Court owned a 39-31 advantage in the kills column, but really made Felician pay on the serve as the Lions floored 10 aces in the win.Â
Aubrey Binkley shined for the victors with a match-best 13 kills for GCU. The trio of
Faith Bennett (11 assists),
Paula Cespedes (9), and
Trilby Kite (8) handled a majority of the setting duties for the Lions. The same threesome topped the team in the digs department. Kite settled 11 digs, followed by Cespedes with nine and Bennett with eight.
Maddie Sloan (Jr.-Caldwell, N.J.) and
Katie Asbery (Sr.-Mililani, Hi.) paced Felician with 12 and 10 kills, respectively.
Miquela Martinez (So.-Santa Fe, N.M.) distributed 27 helpers in the effort.
Alondra Diaz Sanchez (Jr.-Toa Alta, P.R.) and
Hannah Chiswick (So-Pittstown, N.J.) each recorded 13 digs apiece for the Golden Falcons.
GCU now returns home to host Nyack College this Friday afternoon at 5:00 p.m. in the Wellness Center. Watch LIVE on the
