Lakewood, N.J. - For the third straight outing, Georgian Court University again finds itself on the wrong end of a 2-1 decision as the Lions lost in overtime to visiting Dominican College Tuesday in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) men's soccer action.
As was the case in GCU's previous two contests (vs. Nyack, at Concordia), both teams battled through a scoreless first half. In fact, the scoreless stalemate held strong until the 78th minute (77:59) when
Maximino Casares Martinez (Jr. -Panama City, Panama) one-timed a loose ball to the bottom left of the Lions' net, putting the visitors on top, 1-0.
The Dominican advantage would hold for just under six minutes as Georgian Court'sÂ
Tommaso Rio scorched a direct kick from the top of the penalty box to tie the affair at 83:43. The foes played out the remainder of regulation knotted at 1-1, pushing the match into overtime.
It would be a brief extra session as Martinez brought the game to an abrupt end (91:20), drilling a direct kick tally of his own to secure his second score of the day, and the conference road win for the undefeated Chargers (3-0, 3-0 CACC).
The victors owned a slim 12-11 shots advantage on the day, including a 4-2 margin on frame.Â
Georgian Court (1-3, 1-3 CACC) takes to the road for its next outing with a visit to Felician University this Saturday evening at 7:00 p.m.Â
