Jersey City, N.J. - Regardless if its fall or spring, Georgian Court University rises to the annual challenge of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Championship Tournament. The Lions proved this theory once again Tuesday evening as #6 GCU blanked #3 Nyack College on the road, 2-0, in the men's soccer quarterfinals.
Georgian Court (3-4) now looks forward to Friday when they trek to #2 Concordia College, which dismissed #7 Caldwell University by a 5-2 margin earlier in the day.
Nyack gift-wrapped the contest's first tally for the visitors as a Warriors' own-goal just 2:50 into match put the Lions ahead, 1-0. The second-and-final scoring effort came just over 20 minutes later (23:19) when
Mussie Tesfay planted his first collegiate goal, courtesy of a
Mathias Madersbacher helper.
The Warriors, which see its season stunted at 4-3, dominated the shots column despite the outcome (14-6). Both squads put two shots each on frame.
Jamie Hickey, who was named to the CACC All-Conference Team earlier in the day, registered his second shutout of the season (12th career) with two saves over 60:00.
GCU now advances to the CACC semifinals for the third consecutive season (fourth of the last five).
