Lakewood, N.J. - For the fourth-straight outing to start the 2021 women's soccer season, Georgian Court University was kept scoreless as the Lions suffered a 2-0 defeat to visiting Assumption College in GCU's home opener.
Now 0-4 on the year, Georgian Court has been outscored by a 5-0 margin to commence the campaign. The Greyhounds, members of the Northeast-10 Conference, improve to 3-1 overall.
Diana Bruggeman (Sr.-Natick, Mass.) accounted for both Assumption tallies in the triumph. The first came at 11:46 when Georgian Court keeper,
Alyssa Dias (seven saves), batted away a
Kate Carleson (So.-Plainfield, Conn.) cross, setting up Bruggeman to blast home the rebound for her first goal of the year. The tandem again paired up for the Greyhounds' second score as Bruggeman gathered a Carleson feed and laced in her second scoring effort, this time from outside of the 18 at 48:24.
Assumption controlled the shots column, 18-7, with a 9-5 surplus on frame.
The Lions will now remain idle until Wednesday, September 22, when the royal-and-gold host the College of Staten Island in the first-ever meeting between the two programs. Start time is slated for 3:00 p.m.
