Lakewood, N.J. - Georgian Court University's season-opening four-game losing streak and scoring slump is now a distant memory as the Lions unleashed the fury on the College of Staten Island, 8-0, Wednesday afternoon in NCAA Division II non-conference women's soccer action.
The eight-goal margin of victory is GCU's highest since dropping Dominican College by a 10-0 score back on Oct. 29, 2018 in the first round of the CACC Championship Tournament. CSI drops to 1-6 in the first-ever meeting between the two programs.
Six different Lions found the back of the net in the home win.
Krystal Hund paced the Georgian Court attack with five points on the day, including a pair of goals and an assist.
Ashley Merizalde collected her first two collegiate tallies off the GCU bench. Junior
Aliya Canfield recorded her initial goal of the season while
Jessica Ford (game-winner),
Allison Loper, and
Haley Pignatelli did the same for the victors.
Georgian Court dominated the shots column, 21-2, with an 18-1 surplus on frame.
Carley Polchak, in her first start of the season, earned the victory in net for the Lions.
GCU (1-4) looks to carry its momentum into the weekend as the Lions open CACC conference action Saturday morning with an 11:00 a.m. home game vs. Dominican (2-3, 1-0 CACC).
