Philadelphia, Pa. - Georgian Court University opened Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play in style Wednesday evening as the undefeated Lions recorded a 3-1 road win over divisional rival, Chestnut Hill College.
After falling to the host-Griffins by a 25-23 score in the initial set, GCU fired off wins of 25-16, 25-19, and 25-23 to seal the match and secure an eighth-straight victory to start the season. CHC falls to 2-4 (0-1 CACC) with the setback.
The Lions as a team authored a healthy .333 hitting percentage as the royal-and-gold floored 52 kills on 117 total attempts.
Kinsy Haschke led the way in the win as the senior slammed a match-best 15 kills (.467 hitting percentage).
Nahomie Alejandro Negron crunched 11 of her own, finishing with a hitting percentage of .688.
Grace Fenn also reached double-digits with 10 kills in the effort.
Trilby Kite continues to soar at the set as the senior dished 30 helpers for the Lions.
Faith Bennett followed with 16 assists.
Jessica Sprankle sparkled on the Georgian Court back line as the junior libero settled 17 digs in the win.
Chelsea Ross ruled the net on the night with the freshman tallying five blocking assists and a pair of solo putdowns for the road team.
"We got off to a slow start in the first set, we just were not clicking," stated Georgian Court assistant coach,
Jason Ulrich. "We took their (Chestnut Hill) best punches, but they didn't see ours yet. From that point, we began to dominate ... especially in the second set. That momentum carried us through the remainder of the match."
GCU (8-0, 1-0 CACC) remains on the road as the Lions visit Kutztown University this Friday for a non-conference tri-match. Georgian Court will take on Salem University for the second time this season (Sept. 4) in a 5:00 p.m. rematch with the Tigers. The evening concludes with the Lions battling the host-Golden Bears at 7:00 p.m.
