Rockville Centre, N.Y. - Making the most of his final collegiate season opener,
Louis Silva blasted a pair of brilliant tallies to salvage a 2-2, double overtime road stalemate Thursday evening at Molloy College. The contest marked the first of the year for both squads, and served as the first game since 2019 for the home team.
The Georgian Court graduate student provided GCU an initial 1-0 advantage with 14:03 to go in the first half as Silva gathered a
Logan Romero feed, dribbled to the top right of the box, and sizzled home a successful shot into the right corner of the Molloy frame.
Molloy answered early in the second stanza (40:01 left) when
Gio Fabino (Fr.-Carle Place, N.Y.) sent in the first of his collegiate career (a one-timer in front of the goal mouth) after a Georgian Court infraction allowed for a Molloy set piece.
Jonas Jacobsen (So.-Larvik, Norway) and
Peter Meyer (Gr.-Massapequa, N.Y.) registered helpers on the effort.
Fabino would strike again about 8:00 later (57:51) as the freshman sensation touched in a cross off the boot of
Kenneth Garcia (Sr.-Elmhurst, N.Y.).
The home team would maintain its lead until the 83rd minute (82:01) at which time Silva controlled a
Sam Thombs throw-in from the right sideline, danced to the top of the box, and curled in a clout to the top left corner to knot the score at the eventual final of 2-2.
Silva's two goals gives the Union, N.J. native 14 overall in his Georgian Court career, placing him third all-time in the GCU archives behind
Michael Clarke (46) and
Javel Dawkins (22).
Gianluca Cersosimo earned the start in frame for the Lions (0-0-1), securing three saves in the complete-game effort (110:00) GCU is now 1-1-1 all-time vs. Molloy.
Georgian Court now preps for its home opener this Saturday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. when they host Southern New Hampshire University in another non-conference tilt.
