Lakewood, N.J. -
Gianluca Cersosimo collected his first career shutout, and
Louis Silva netted his third goal over the initial two outings of the campaign, as Georgian Court handed visiting Southern New Hampshire University a 1-0 setback Saturday in the Lions' 2021 home opener.
The victory pushes GCU's record to 1-0-1 after tying at Molloy College, 2-2, Thursday evening. The Penmen, playing their first match since 2019, open the season at 0-1. Saturday's contest marks the first-ever between the two programs.
Silva, who accounted for both of the Lions' tallies two days ago at Molloy, picked up right where he left off as the fifth-year senior knocked in the eventual game-winner at 26:07.
Jack Guiton (assist) controlled the ball at midfield and slipped a pass to a darting Silva, who proceeded to sprint the rest of the way before depositing a strike into the bottom right. He now owns all three of GCU's goals thus far this young season.
Cersosimo dazzled in the Georgian Court net, recording four clutch saves in the 90:00 effort. SNHUÂ doubled up the Lions in the overall shots column, 16-8. However, the home team would author a 5-4 edge when to came to efforts on frame.
GCU takes an extended hiatus before returning to action on Sunday, September 12 (1:00 p.m.) with a visit to Salem University in Salem West Virginia.
