West Haven, Conn. - A second-half goal off the boot of Pace University freshman,
Alyssa Cabral (Hollis Hills, N.Y.), provided the Setters all the offense it would need as they would hold on to blank Georgian Court University in a season-opening neutral site contest, hosted by The University of New Haven.
The win extends the Setters' winning streak vs. GCU to five-straight ( 5-1-1 all-time vs. the Lions) as Pace kicks off the fall campaign at 1-0.
Cabral's first collegiate tally came early in the second half (50:24) as the freshman midfielder drilled a long liner from beyond the top of the circle into the top left of the Lions' frame. Pace out-shot GCU, 15-6 (8-3 on goal), in the triumph.
Despite the result, Georgian Court's
Alyssa Dias kept her squad in the game until the end as the junior net-minder managed seven saves in the complete-game effort (90:00).
GCU (0-1) returns to the Nutmeg State on Sunday to take on the host Chargers at 4:00 p.m.
