Lakewood, N.J. - Trailing Dominican College by a pair of tallies late in the second stanza, Georgian Court University stunned the visiting Chargers by peppering its guest with two goals of its own in the final 9:18 of regulation to secure an eventual 2-2, double overtime stalemate in Saturday's CACC opener for the Lions.
The tie, GCU's second of the season, keeps the royal and blue undefeated on year at 3-0-2 (0-0-1 CACC). Dominican moves to 2-3-1 (0-1-1 CACC). Georgian Court now leads the all-time series at 5-3-1.
DC's
Marouf Barry (Yonkers, N.Y.) put the road team on the board first at 20:23 when the redshirt junior knocked in a two-man assist (Rosales-Santos, Pirana)Â for his second goal on the year.
Maximino Casares Martinez (Valladolid, Spain) popped in his third of the campaign at 37:44 as the redshirt poked in a
Nicholas Julien (R-Jr., Spring Valley, N.Y.) cross in front of the GCU goal mouth.
Dominican's lead would stand at 2-0 until 80:42 at which time
Louis Silva would take advantage of one of the Chargers' 27 infractions on the afternoon and sizzle in a perfect penalty kick for his team-leading sixth goal. Georgian Court's game-tying tally would also come as a result of a Dominican foul as Silva delivered a free-kick effort that would find the boot of
Daniel Deutz for the freshman's first collegiate goal in his varsity debut.
GCU owned a 17-15 shot advantage with a 3-2 edge in the overtime sessions. The Lions also bested its guest with a 9-5 surplus on frame.
Gianluca Cersosimo went the distance (110:00) in net for Georgian Court, collecting three saves in the outing. The junior net-minder now owns an 0.92 goals-against average in his five starts.
The Lions next prepare to host Jefferson this Wednesday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. in another CACC showdown.
