Lakewood, N.J. - For the second-consecutive outing, Georgian Court University suffered a frustrating five-set setback as the Lions lost to visiting Wilmington University, 3-2, Tuesday evening in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference women's volleyball divisional action.
After the Lions secured two of the match's first three games (25-17, 23-25, 25-18), the Wildcats had their way with GCU in the final two sets (25-19, 15-8) to secure the clutch conference victory over the royal-and-gold. The defeat drops Georgian Court to fourth-place in the CACC standings at 3-2 (11-3 overall) while Wilmington sits in a second-place tie with Jefferson at 3-1 (7-7 overall).
Three Lions achieved double-digits in the kill column, led by
Nylene Mateo and her match-best 16Â (.467 hitting %). The sophomore also provided five service aces.Â
Kinsy Haschke followed with 14 kills while
Chelsea Ross floored 11Â (.429 hitting %) to go along with five blocking assists.
Trilby Kite authored her sixth double-double of the season with 27 assists and 14 digs.
Faith Bennett added 18 helpers of her own.
Jessica Sprankle paced the home team with 15 digs. Nahomie Alejandro Negro did the same for the Lions above the net with six blocking assists.Â
GCU now prepares to host Adelphi University Thursday evening at 7:00 p.m. in a non-conference competition.
