Lakewood, N.J. - For the first time since Sept. 01, 2007, Georgian Court University proved victorious over Adelphi University as the Lions clawed to a 3-2 home win over the visiting Panthers Thursday evening in NCAA Division II women's volleyball action.
Playing its third-straight five-set affair, GCU snapped a season-high two-game slid with the win (12-3). The Lions ended an eight-game losing streak to the Panthers, last upending AU, 3-2, in a neutral-site match hosted by Indiana (PA) University 14 years ago.
With the match tied at 2-2, Adelphi (11-4) had the Lions on the brink of extinction after taking a hearty 13-9 lead in the fifth-and-final set. GCU ripped off a 4-0 run to tie the affair at 13-all. A kill from Adelphi's
Samantha Collins (Jr.-Levittown, N.Y.) pushed the Panthers ahead by one before Georgian Court claimed victory with a match-ending 3-0 surge.
Kinsy Haschke, for the seventh time this season, recorded a double-double performance as the senior Texan totaled 15 kills and 14 digs in the marathon match.
Grace Fenn stopped just a pair of rejections short of her own double-double effort with 11 kills and eight blocking assists.
Nahomie Alejandro Negron also sported eight blocking assists to go along with eight digs and a .318 hitting percentage.
Trilby Kite and
Faith Bennett distributed 27 and 13 assists, respectively, while
Jessica Sprankle controlled a match-best 27 digs.
Looking to build off this signature triumph, Georgian Court returns to action Saturday afternoon with a CACC visit to Dominican College. Start time is slated for 12:00 p.m.
