Three Straight Bridgeport Goals Down Georgian Court

LAKEWOOD, N.J. (Oct. 15, 2022) - Georgian Court grabbed an early lead on CACC leaders Bridgeport, but a late first half goal and two in quick succession in the second spelled the end of the upset bid. The Lions added a second goal late, but time ran out trying to net the equalizer.

How it Happened
• Bridgeport held a big advantage in shots, 22-13, most of which came in the first half where they outshot the Lions 12-3.
• The Purple Knights only put nine on net though, the Lions hit the net on seven of their 13 attempts.
• All five corner kicks were taken in the second half with the Lions grabbing three and the Purple Knights two.
• Bridgeport picked up five fouls in each half. The Lions were called for seven total and three yellow cards.
• It was a defensive battle at the start with just six total shots take in the first 20 minutes and two on net, both saves.
• In the 22nd minute, the Lions had their best scoring chance and didn't miss. Marin Kulenguski took a pass from Sophia Ridolfo and took a quick shot on net. It was deflected by the Purple Knight keeper but right to Abby Kennelly on the far side who buried the rebound for the game's first goal.
• The lead lasted roughly 20 minutes when three minutes before the half, Bridgeport tied things up. Samantha St. Pierre took a pass at midfield and dribbled through the Lion defense, around two defenders and shot right to left, past a diving Alyssa Dias to tie the match.
• Bridgeport got off two more shots before the end of the period, but the half came to end tied at one.
• Just two and a half minutes into the second half, Bridgeport grabbed the lead. Leigh-Ann Ramsay scored with an assist from Angelina LoFranco. Not even a minute later, Bridgeport made it 3-1 as St. Pierre scored her second of the game getting a pass from Kate Thill and beating Dias.
• The teams were trading shots, but neither had a high-scoring chance during the middle of the period. With under 20 minutes to play, the Lions had two golden opportunities, one they converted and one they didn't.
• In the 74th minute, Krystal Hund intercepted a pass in the offensive zone, dished a one-touch pass to Kennelly who sank one off the keeper and into the net. It was Kennelly's second of the game and brought the Lions within one, 3-2.
• Five minutes later, GCU had a chance to tie after a Bridgeport foul in the box. They sent Aliya Canfield to take the penalty kick. She went low from left to right but Bridgeport keeper Clara Karlsson guessed correctly and kept it out of the net. Canfield still had a chance on the rebound, but that shot was also blocked by Karlsson and trickled out of bounds.
• In the game's closing seconds, the Lions had a throw-in from midfield. A Bridgeport injury stopped the clock and allowed the Lions to set up their offense, which included taking Dias out of net and putting her in the offensive zone. The throw-in though went to a Purple Knight defender who kicked it downfield and out of play as Bridgeport held on for a 3-2 win.
