Lions Blanked By Dominican

ORANGEBURG, NY (Oct. 21, 2022) - Georgian Court Women's Soccer were on their heels Friday morning as Dominican defeated them 3-0. The Chargers scored just before the end of the first half and added two late in the game for a 3-0 win.

How it Happened
• Dominican had a distinct advantage in shots and shots on goal. They peppered the net with 24 shots and put 14 on goal. GCU mustered 10 shots and four on net.
• It was a more foul-heavy game than Georgian Court is used to. A total of 28 fouls were called with seven yellow cards. GCU was issued two yellows and called for 13 infraction. The Chargers were carded five times with 15 penalties. 
• Each team earned just two corner kicks, one in each half.
• The Charger offense was locked in from the opening whistle. They collected their first shot just 40 seconds into the match. Alyssa Dias made her first save less than four minutes in.
• Georgian Court didn't test Stella Paton until the 18 minute mark. Sydney Kulenguski's shot was saved, the first on net for the Lions.
• Alyssa Dias was doing her best to keep the match scoreless, turning aside each shot on goal. With just 2:36 left to play though, Dominican finally broke through. Kaitlyn Zeeb dribbled into the box and beat Dias right to left for a 1-0 lead at the break.
• Izzy Hernandez had a chance to draw the Lions even in the 48th minute. Her shot was saved by Paton.
• Dominican picked up a pair of yellow cards just 14 seconds apart, but it didn't slow their offense down any. Just past 79 minutes, the Chargers made it a 2-0 game as Abby Montera buried a deflection from a blocked shot.
• After Dominican made it 2-0, the Lions got just one shot off the rest of the match. The Chargers put it away with a goal in the 88th minute, the second of the match for Zeeb.

• Emily Clayton, Izzy Hernandez and Aliya Canfield each had one shot and one on goal.
• Sydney Kulenguski totaled two shots, one on net.
• Krystal Hund tallied two shots.
• Alyssa Dias made 11 stops.

For the Chargers
• Stella Paton completed the shutout making four saves.
• Kaitlyn Zeeb scored twice on four shots on goal.
• Abby Montera scored on her only shot.
• Alissa Madura and Hanna Sylve each had an assist.

News and Notes
• Alissa Dias' 11 saves were a season-high.
• Dias also surpassed 250 career saves. She stands at 255 which is fifth all-time at GCU. 
• The Lions 13 fouls were also the most in a match this season.

• The regular season comes to an end for the Lions Tuesday, Oct. 25 when they head to Chestnut Hill for a 7 p.m. match.
