Lions Draw with Chestnut Hill in CACC Finale

LAFAYETTE HILL, Pa. (Oct. 26, 2022) - Georgian Court Men's Soccer played in their final CACC match of the season Wednesday night. The Lions got down early in the first half, but broke through to tie with less than 15 minutes to play to salvage a 1-1 draw with Chestnut Hill. 

How it Happened
• Georgian Court led in total shots, 15-9, but Chestnut Hill put more on net, 7-6.
• GCU also had a big lead in corner kicks, 14-4, including a 7-0 advantage in the second half.
• The Lions were called for 16 fouls and three yellow cards. The Griffins tallied 10 fouls and three yellows as well.
• Georgian Court was in the offensive zone for the first five minutes of the game, applying early pressure. They had chances with two corner kicks and a shot on goal from Jay Abraham, but came up empty.
• It was the the Griffins turn to test Lion keeper Sotirios Gkosdis. He came up with two saves and another shot attempt was blocked all in a three minute span.
• The Lions regained possession and earned three corner kicks and got three shots off, but still couldn't find the back of the net.
• In the 18th minute, Chestnut Hill played a ball into the box to Juan Oritz. He gathered possession, took a step, shot right to left and scored the game's first goal.
• Georgian Court only had two more shots on net in the final 27 minutes and Gkosdis made three more saves as the half came to an end with the Griffins on top, 1-0.
• The second half was a defensive battle. There was only one shot between the two teams in the first 15 minutes of the half. 
• The Lions first shot didn't come until the 71st minute. An Abraham shot that went wide. They started to get more pressure going late in the half. Brandon Sogness nearly tied the game in the 76th minute but hit the post. 
• GCU had another corner kick in the 77th minute and connected. Joseph Ficarotta sent one into the box and Ibrahim Madad rose above everyone else to head the ball into the net and tie the game at one.
• The Lions had two more corner kicks in the final minutes, but were unable to grab the lead and the match ended 1-1.

Ibrahim Madad scored for the Lions on his only shot attempt.
Joseph Ficarotta had an assist and two shots on goal. 
Jay Abraham led the team with three shots. 
Sotirios Gkosdis was in net and made six saves. 

For the Griffins
• Juan Ortiz scored the first goal of the match.
• Christian Torres had the lone assist.
• Eran Shifris made four saves.
• Stephen Connor played the second half in net and made one save while allowing two goals.

News and Notes
Sotirios Gkosdis surpassed 80 saves for the season.
Ibrahim Madad scored his first goal of the season.
Joseph Ficarotta's assist was his third of the season giving him the team lead.

• The final game of the season for the Lions comes Friday, Oct. 28. They'll be home in nonconference action to take on Molloy.
