Men's Soccer Blanks Bloomfield

LAKEWOOD, N.J. (Oct. 8, 2022) - Georgian Court Men's Soccer snapped a six-match winless streak Saturday afternoon with a 2-0 shutout win over Bloomfield. GCU got two first-half goals as they concluded a three-match homestand.

How it Happened
• Each team totaled 15 shots and put six on net each.
• Both teams also managed to secure six corner kicks.
• Fans were subjected to plenty of whistles and stoppages. Bloomfield was called for 14 fouls and the Lions 13 and there was a total of 13 cards issued, six yellows on GCU and six yellows and one red on Bloomfield.
• In the early going, Georgian Court's first two shots came from corner kicks. Jomar Vizcaino was there to stop them both.
• There were dueling yellow cards in the 15 minute of Nathan Reyes of Bloomfield and the Lions' Sam Thombs. The yellow on Reyes was for a foul in the box though and that led to a Lions penalty kick.
• Francisco Corral was the man elected to take the PK. He went low and hard and Vizcaino guessed right and came up with the save. However, the rebound went right back to Corral who this time made it past Vizcaino for the game's first tally.
• Bloomfield had a couple of chances to tie following the Corral goal. In a two minute span, they took two corner kicks and got off three shots, but couldn't get anything by Lion goalkeeper Sotirios Gkosdis.
• The Bears best chance came on a free kick. Adam Lynch actually found the back of the net, but Bloomfield was called for a foul that took the goal off the board in the first half.
• In the 27th minute, following a Bloomfield yellow card, Joseph Ficarotta set up for the free kick. His kick was tipped by the Bloomfield netminder right to Cherif Tammar who pushed it past Vizcaino and into the net for a 2-0 lead.
• Georgian Court was pushing for a third goal before the end of the half, but Sam Thombs drive hit the crossbar and stayed out.
• With under five to play in the half, Bloomfield's Nathan Reyes, was assessed a red card (his second yellow) from the bench and was ejected from the match. The Bears though were not forced to play a man down however since the infraction occurred against a player on the bench.
• The Lion defense stymied the Bears for the second half. Gkosdis only had to make three saves for the final 45 minutes and picked up his second shutout of the season.

Lion Stat Leaders
• Francisco Corral had a goal with two shots on net and a match-high five total shots.
• Cherif Tammar also scored while attempting four shots.
• Sotirios Gkosdis stopped all six shots he faced.
