LAKEWOOD, N.J. (Oct. 8, 2022) - Georgian Court Women's Soccer erupted for three second-half goals and knocked off Bloomfield College on Senior Day to improve to 3-4-6 on the season and pick up three more points in the CACC as they move to 2-2-4.
How it Happened
• Georgian Court took advantage of a Bloomfield red card in the first half and controlled much of the action as the Bears played a player down. GCU finished with 25 total shots to the Bears seven, five of which came in the first half.
• The Lions also held the advantage with eight corner kicks to Bloomfield's one.Â
• It was a mostly clean game with just nine total foul calls, five for Bloomfield and four for the Lions. There were three total cards all on Bloomfield, two yellow's and one straight red.Â
• It was a very slow start for both teams. Not much action in the first 10 minutes. The first shot came from Bloomfield in the 11th minute. They actually ripped off two back-to-back. The first was blocked and the second Dias made her first save of the day on.
• Bloomfield was controlling the match, quickly getting off another shot which Dias made another save on. They then earned a corner kick in the 18th minute. O'Vanna Mullings sent one towards the middle of the net that was headed in by Brittany Liss.
• Georgian Court started getting more opportunities following the Bloomfield goal. The best came from
Emily Clayton who's drive hit the post and stayed out.
• The Lions continued to play in the offensive zone and when Bear goalkeeper Mia Phillip got too aggressive and left net, that left
Aliya Canfield with an opportunity in front of an empty goal. Canfield's shot from inside the box was illegally blocked by a position player, Samara Edward, who ended up getting a red card for blocking a scoring opportunity with her hands.Â
• The red card gave
Krystal Hund a penalty shot with a chance to tie the game in the 34th minute. She went low right and left and pushed it too wide, missing the net completely as Bloomfield caught a break.
• Bloomfield had to play the rest of the match down one player though and even though they made it through the first half unscathed, it would come to hurt them in the second.
• The Bears were on defense for nearly the entire second half, afraid to get caught in transition. They managed to keep Georgian Court off the board for a bit, but Lions finally broke though. The senior Hund, who earlier missed on the penalty kick, took a pass from
Abby Kennelly and this time made sure to put it on net and past the keeper to tie the match.
• Twelve minutes later, in the 79th minute, GCU took their first lead.
Sydney Kulenguski's corner kick found Canfield who headed it off the back post and into the net.
• Georgian Court put the game away four minutes later.
Nicole Turelli let one go from 30 yards out. Her shot hit the crossbar, deflected down and back into play, and
Izzy Hernandez was there to clean up the rebound.
• Playing 11-10 and up two goals, all that was left was to run out the final six minutes and that's what GCU did as they picked up the 3-1 win.
