NEW ORLEANS - The United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced earlier this week that the Georgian Court University duo of
Joseph Sauchelli and
Jan Volkmar represents the Lions as members of the USTFCCCA NCAA Division II All-Academic Team.
Here is the criteria to be named an NCAA Division II All-Academic Athlete:
- Minimum cumulative grade point average of a 3.25 on a 4.0 scale through the end of the semester of competition. Institutions utilizing a different GPA scale must convert the GPA to a 4.0 scale using the standard conversion method [GPA/Scale x 4.0]. Data must be certifiable by the institution's registrar.
- Must have completed at least 24 semester hours/36 quarter hours through the end of the semester of competition at the institution.
- Transfer students and/or graduate students are to include only grades earned at the current nominating institution.
- The student-athlete must have achieved an automatic or provisional qualifying mark (individual or relay event) for either the indoor season or outdoor season.
Sauchelli, a sophomore exercise science major from Manalapan, N.J., recorded a 3.65 grade-point average while collecting USTFCCCA All-Region status in javelin. Volkmar, a native of Eschwege, Germany, earned a stellar GPA of 3.97 as a psychology major. The freshman also registered a place on the USTCCCA All-Region roster, doing so in both the decathlon and pole vault.
Collectively, both the GCU men's and women's programs achieved USTFCCCA All-Academic honors with 3.16 and 3.28 grade-point averages, respectively. The Georgian Court women's roster has earned this acclaim every year since 2011.
