STATEN ISLAND, NY (Jan. 16, 2026) - Based on Friday afternoon's results, you might not know Georgian Court Track and Field was competing for the first time in more than a month. The Lions had their second full team meet of the season and first in the 2026 calendar year at the NYC Gotham Cup at OceanBreeze in Staten Island. The Lions picked up right where they left off in 2025 with some big time performances.
Throws
• After a busy week that saw the throwers compete in Ohio last Saturday, most GCU throwers competed in just one event this afternoon.
•
Malicah Etienne and
Cameren Anderson went back-to-back in second and third in the shot put. Etienne threw 49-1 and Anderson had a mark of 48-10.
• Anderson was the only thrower on the men's side to compete in two events. HeÂ
•
Guius Dabney also had a top-10 finish in the shot throwing 44-4 for seventh place.Â
•
Amir Spruell-Everson set a personal-best in the weight throw with his toss of 46-6.Â
• The three women shot putters all finished within four places of each other.
Kaydence Fischer led the way in 11th place with her throw of 36-7.
•
Sigurlaug Sveinsdottir and Adriana Fodera were 13th and 14th, each with their best throw coming on their final attempt. Sveinsdottir hit a PR of 36-1 while Fodera threw 35-11.Â

Chiamaka Wokocha had herself a day in the women's weight throw. She finished in sixth place but set a new personal-best by more than three feet throwing 48-3. That moves her from 10th to fourth all-time at GCU.
• Fodera was just outside the top-10 in 11th place throwing 42-4.
• For the second time in less than a week,
Mark Linton bettered his own school record in the weight throw. He finished second overall with a throw of 58-7, roughly a foot further than he threw last week.
• Anderson had another third place finish. He threw the weight 52-9.
Amir Spruell-Everson set a season-best mark throwing 46-6 for 13th place.Â
Jumps
• The long jump saw
Chuck Smith move to ninth all-time at GCU. He jumped 21-1 for 16th place.
• Similarly in the women's pole vault,
Sydney Hurley moved up to a tie for sixth by clearing 9-2.25 on her final attempt at the bar.Â

Ivan Ramos-Lopez got over the bar at 13-5.50 to tie a personal-best and tie for third place in the field.Â
•
Daizhae' Brown had another second place finish, this time in the long jump. Her final jump saw her hit 17-11 which was good for second overall.
• Sveinsdottir's final jump was also her best. She had a top-10 finish placing seventh with her new personal-best jump 16-9.5.Â
• GCU had two in the top-six in the women's triple jump.
Tishanna Cohen was in fifth place with her jump of 36-9.25.
Jewel Pierrecharles was one spot behind her in sixth jumping 36-3.75. Her best jump, and only jump over 11m came on her final attempt.Â
• Over in the men's triple jump,
Shona Mutokuto was sixth. He was just short of a personal-best jumping 45-3.
Matthew Sutton was 12th with his jump of 41-3.Â
• In the women's high jump,
Daizhae' Brown was again in action. She cleared 4-9 for an 11th place finish.
Juliana Dogostino as 15th getting over 4-7.Â
Sprints/Hurdles/Relays
•
Daizhae' Brown continues to impress in her freshman season. She set a PR in the 60m preliminary round running 7.79, the fastest time in the prelims. Although she finished second overall, Brown dropped her time to another personal-best 7.76.
•
Jewel Pierrecharles was 13th in the 60m dash running 8.03.Â
• Moving on to the hurdles,
Shalom Adzakro finished 12th running 9.65.
• In the men's sprints,
Barone Vankline ran in the invitational portion of the 60m dash. He took 18th running 7.15.
•
Nick Jordan set a PR in the open 60m dash taking 19th in 7.54.
Joshua Tipaldo was 38th in 8.29.
• Stepping up to the 400m,
Marcos Murillo-Benavides led GCU running 54.13 for 37th place.
Abdul Brown hit a personal-best in 1:00.75 for 47th.Â
• Sveinsdottir finished her day with another personal-best, her third of the day. She ran 26.69 for 200m to finish in 25th place and move to ninth all-time at GCU.
• Also running the 200m for the women,
Leela McConnell set a personal-best herself by more than a full second on the indoor track with her time of 27.48. That was good for 41st place.
Molly Burns came in 55th running 28.75.
• Over on the men's side, Jordan was 46th to lead the Lions in a time of 24.21.
James McCoy was 53rd in 24.50 and Tipaldo 64th in 26.55.Â
• In the 4x400m relay, the men's group of Murillo-Benavides, Vankline,
Gary Boyd, Jr. and
Brandon Rudder took seventh place in 3:33.02.
• McConnell, Mauro, Burns and Sprunger ran for the women. They came in 12th place running 4:43.98.Â
Distance
•
Sophia Mauro made her indoor season debut Friday. She continued where she left off from cross country season and finished in fourth place running 2:22.58. That time immediately places her fifth all-time indoors at GCU.
• Also running her first indoor 800m for the Lions was
Nora Sprunger. She took 21st place in 2:40.31.
Samantha Lonseth ran a personal-best in the event, 2:56.44 for 25th place.Â

Zachary Spoonire ran the 800m for the men. He took 13th overall in 2:02.05 which is a new personal-best.
• Three Lion men also went up to the 3,000m. In a deep field,
Ryan Pettrow led GCU. He set a new PR running 9:02.01 for 26th place.
•
Nolan Kus was less than a second shy of a personal-best. He finished in 36th place running 9:20.04.
Matthew Schaub was 48th in 10:29.45.
Next week Georgian Court will run for the first time someplace other than OceanBreeze. They'll be in Lancaster, PA for the Franklin and Marshall Invitational Saturday, Jan. 24.Â
