Lions Suffer Defeat to Mercyhurst University

Lakewood, N.J. – The young men's soccer squad of Georgian Court came up on the wrong side of a 4-0 scoreline versus a very strong Mercyhurst University in the second game of the season. The early stages of the game saw some back-and-forth action but as the game wore on the strength and experience of the Mercyhurst Lakers began to show.

Jorge Tallada Torres (So.-Sevilla, Spain) scored the goal in the 28th minute to put the Lakers on the board, after a save from Andres Manzano deflected in to his path. The Lakers didn't slow down in the second half, Sean Kerrigan (So.-Sligo, Ireland) scored on a penalty kick and Lockie Fay (So.-Wellington, New Zealand) scored when he picked off some sloppy play from the Lions and was able to deflect the ball into the goal. The fourth-and-final blow came at 76:27 as Kerrigan scored on a direct free kick, bending it around the wall and nestling the ball in to the bottom corner and past Goalkeeper Andres Manzano. This marked Kerrigan's fourth goal in just two games.

Mercyhurst outshot the lions by 15-6 with the Lakers making them count with a 8-2 surplus on frame.
Johnathan Gomes (5th.-Broward County, FL) earned the win in net for the victors with two saves over 90:00. Andres Manzano (So.-Barcelona, Spain) was the goalie-of-record for Georgian Court, collecting four saves of his own in the complete game effort. The Lions were on the receiving end of 22 fouls.

Georgian Court will take a few days off to recoup as they look to rebound on Thursday as they make their first ever trip to the Granite State to take on Southern New Hampshire University.
