Hooksett, N.H. (Sept. 1, 2022) - The Georgian Court Lions Men's Soccer team hit the road for the first time this regular season, traveling to New Hampshire for a non-conference match with Southern New Hampshire University. After a scoreless first half, the Penmen broke the tie and made the goal stand up in a 1-0 win.
How It Happened
• An even first 45 saw the Penmen outshoot the Lions 7-6, with GCU making two saves in net and SNHU stopping one.
•
Mikey Mallon had the first shot on net for the Lions. His strike was stopped by Jackson Rivers at the 12 minute mark.
• The Lions had another opportunity in the closing seconds of the half, but Mathias Madersbachner missed wide as the half came to a close.
• The Penmen got off to a quick start out of the break, getting a pair of shots off and a corner kick in the first five minutes. The Lions held their ground though with
Sotirios Gkosdis making a save.
• Gkosdis made another stop, but SNHU kept the pressure on and finally broke through in the 62nd minute with a goal from Isnaba Namusse.
• GCU had a couple more opportunities to put one on the board late in the half. In the 73rd minute,
Cherif Tamar and
Brandon Sogness got off a pair of shots 20 seconds apart, but couldn't find the back of the net.
• With three minutes left to play,
Logan Romero put one low on net, but Rivers was again up to the task, and the Penmen ran out the clock to hold on for the win.
Lion Stat Leaders
• Gkosdis took the loss, but made eight stops in net.
• Mallon and Romero each had a shot on goal. Mallon was one of two Lions with two total shots.

Sam Thombs also got two shots off.
For the Penmen
• Namusse had a goal on three shots, two on net.
• Philipp Hermann led the game with three shots on goal.
• Luca Shubitidze had three shots and an assist.
• Jackson Rivers made two stops in net.
News and Notes
• This was the first start of the season for Gkosdis. His eight stops are a single-game high.
• The one goal allowed is the fewest GCU has given up this season.

Logan Romero has taken the team lead with three shots on net.
