Pleasantville, N.Y. – The Lions secure a solid non-conference victory over the University of New Haven on Saturday evening. The result saw Georgian Court University secure their first victory of the season, in a neutral site game played at Pace University. Izzy Hernandez's first collegiate goal early in the second half (57:00) was all the offense the Lions needed as Georgian Court turned its 1-0 advantage into a shutout triumph.
Hernandez was involved in the buildup of the goal, heading a Sophia Ridolfo throw-in into the stride of Abby Kennelly. Kennelly settled the ball and took a near post shot that was blocked by a New Haven defender, the ball deflected in front of Hernandez who hit a one-time finish that nestled into the bottom corner at the back post.
The Lions outshot the Chargers 10-7 and 4-3 in shots on goals. Alyssa Dias garnered three saves in the complete-game shutout effort for the victors (90:00), as the senior net-minder moves to 1-0-1 on the year. Amanda McQuillan recorded three saves for the Chargers.
The Lions prepare to take on Adelphi University Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. for a non-conference tilt in Lakewood, N.J.
