Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Lions Strike First, But Fall to GBC, 4-2

LAKEWOOD, N.J. (Sept. 13, 2022) - Georgian Court Women's Soccer played at home for the first time in 10 days. While they were able to break a lengthy scoring drought, the Lions couldn't hang on to an early lead in a 4-2 loss to Goldey-Beacom College. 

How it Happened
• Georgian Court held much of the possession, especially early. They led in shots with 15 and shots on goal with seven. Goldey-Beacom put up 11 shots with six making it on net.
• The Lions also held a big edge in corner kicks, taking six to the Lightning's three.
• Goldey-Beacom gave GCU extra opportunities with 12 fouls while the Lions committed just three.
• Out of the gates, Georgian Court controlled the action early. They got off two corner kicks in the first four minutes of play and two shots in the first three.
• The Lions finally found the back of the next when Bridgette King buried one off a pass from Marin Kulenguski to make it 1-0 nine minutes into the match.
• GCU continued to apply pressure getting two more corner kicks and another shot off before the 20 minute mark.
• Golden-Beacom turned things around midway through the period and were able to tie and take the lead scoring three goals the remainder of the first half.
• Alyssa Ruggeri was the catalyst assisting on the first two and scoring the third Lightning goal.
• The Lions had a couple of opportunities at the end of the half, but Nikki Cashin came up big making three saves.
• GCU inched closer just seven minutes into half number two. Aliya Canfield scored with an assist from Sydney Kulenguski, making it a one-goal game, 3-2.
• Less than 10 minutes later though, GBC had their two-goal lead back. Mariah McQueen squeezed one past Alyssa Dias for a 4-2 lead.
• The Lions had another chance to get closer late in the match, but Canfield's shot sailed high over the net and the Lightning walked out with the 4-2 win.

Bridgette King scored the first GCU goal and finished with two shots.
• The sisters Sydney and Marin Kulenguski each had an assist.
Alyssa Dias made two saves in net.

For the Lightning
• Mariah McQueen came off the bench to score a pair of goals on three shots.
• Alyssa Ruggeri finished with five points, a goal and three assists.
• Angela Lee had a goal on three shots.
• Nikki Cashin made five saves.

News and Notes
Bridgette King's goal was her first as a member of Georgian Court.
• Sydney and Marin Kulenguski's assists were the first for GCU this season, six matches into the year.
• The Lions 15 shots and seven shots on goal were a season-best. 
• The six corner kicks for GCU were also a season-best.
