Lions Explode For Five Second-Half Goals in Win

LAKEWOOD, N.J. (Sept. 14, 2022) - After coming up empty in the first 45 minutes, Georgian Court Men's Soccer dominated the second half, scoring five unanswered goals en route to a 5-1 win Wednesday afternoon against Goldey-Beacom.

Four Lions scored goals with Logan Romero netting a pair. GCU also saw four others add assists.

How it Happened
• Georgian Court controlled play throughout the game, despite the scoreless first half. They put up 27 total shots, 12 coming on net. The Lightning also peppered the goal with 19 shots and 10 coming on goal.
• Even though the Lions were the ones in the offensive end most of the game, it was Goldey-Beacom with more opportunities on set pieces. They had 12 corner kicks to the Lions six. The fouls were nearly equal at 8-7, Lightning.
• The Lions got the first three shots of the match, all coming in the first seven minutes. GBC goalkeeper Lucas Rinaldi was forced to make two saves.
• Goldey-Beacom had their own chances to get ahead early. They put two shots on net which Sotirios Gkosdis was up to stopping and had three consecutive corner kicks, but nothing came from the opportunities.
• The opportunities continued to come in waves for each team. After the GBC rush, Georgian Court had four shots and a corner kick in a five minute span, but couldn't put one past Rinaldi who made another stop.
• Late in the half, after a GCU header was blocked, Andres Osorio started a transition with a pass to Patrick Short who took it at midfield and did the rest, scoring the first goal of the game in the 42nd minute.
• The Lions nearly tied it on a shot from Mathias Madersbacher with under two to play in the half, but Rinaldi stymied him and GBC took a 1-0 lead into the break.
• Half number two, was all Georgian Court. The floodgates finally opened up as they poured in five goals in the first 31 minutes and scored three in a three minute span.
Logan Romero tied things with an assist from Francisco Corral in the 49th minute and 38 seconds later put in another goal, this time coming from Madersbacher and Joseph Ficarotta.
• Just over two minutes after Romero's second goal, Corral found the back of the net after a feed from Madersbacher, his second helper of the match, and the rout was on.
• Ficarotta added a goal in the 60th minute and Brandon Sogness took a chip from Oscar Jannesson at midfield and beat the keeper for the final tally.
