NEWARK, Del. (Sept. 15, 2022) - Georgian Court Women's Volleyball falls to 0-2 to start the conference season following their 3-0 loss at Wilmington. The Lions dropped all three sets 25-17, 25-15, 25-11.
How it Happened
• The Wildcats led in nearly every category on the offensive and defensive ends. They landed 39 kills to the Lions 28, outblocked GCU 10-2 and landed nine more aces than Georgian Court, 11-2.
• Wilmington had a decisive advantage in hitting percentage. They hit .310 for the match while the Lions hit just .067.
• One area the Lions did outperform the Wildcats was on digs, 48-47.
• Set one, the closest of the three, saw the Lions down just one early, 8-7, following a kill from
Ava Venneri and a Wildcat attack error. The two teams were going back and forth and a
Nylene Mateo service ace briefly put GCU ahead, 15-14. Following the ace though, the Wildcats went on an 8-1 run and the Lions found themselves trailing 22-16.
Chelsea Ross got a kill, but the Wildcats put the set away 25-17.
• Wilmington jumped out early in set two and never trailed. Leading by two, 6-4, the Wildcats went on a 6-1 run and started to pull away. The Lions were never able to get closer than within five and the Wildcats finished the set scoring six of the final seven points.
• The third set again saw the Wildcats pull away late. The Lions were down just two, 8-6, but the Wildcats took over and finished the match scoring 17 of the final 20 points.

Chelsea Ross scored a team-high eight points collecting eight kills. She added three digs.

Jana Borkovic finished with a game-high 11 digs.

Iciar Zayas passed out 23 assists and corralled six digs.

Nylene Mateo chipped in six kills.

Ava Venneri and
Amiyah Woods added four kills each.
For the Wildcats
• Wilmington had three in double-figure kills led by Kacey Affrunti's 11.
• Jessica Connelly and Brice Hansen each picked up 10 kills. Hansen also hadded nine digs.
• Elly Collins landed four service aces and also scooped 11 digs.
• Katie Bushong distributed 32 assists.
News and Notes
• The entire match featured just five ties and two lead changes.
• GCU's .067 attack percentage was their lowest for a match this season.
• Each the Lions last four matches have gone just three sets. GCU has played beyond three sets in just four of 11 matches this season.Â

Nylene Mateo played in just two sets. Her 16 attacks were her fewest this season.

Iciar Zayas went over 300 assists for the season.
