Volleyball Finishes Week With Sweep at Lincoln (PA)

LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, PA (Sept. 17, 2022) - Georgian Court Volleyball capped a three-match week with a sweep on the road in nonconference play. The Lions crossed into Pennsylvania to take on Lincoln (PA) where GCU won in three sets, 3-0, 25-21, 25-17, 25-19).

How it Happened
• The GCU Lions led in nearly every offensive category. They hit .260 for the match while holding Lincoln to a .074 attack percentage.
• Georgian Court scored 47 points getting 37 kills against just 12 attack errors. Lincoln landed just 24 kills in three sets with 18 attack errors.
• GCU averaged three service aces per set, scoring nine for the match.
• The entire match featured 11 ties and nine lead changes, most of those coming in the opening set.
• Set one saw eight tie scores and seven lead changes. In the early going, the teams went back and forth until GCU finally was able to create some separation. Tied at 12, the Lions scored five straight for their largest lead, 17-12. Jessica Sprankle landed two service aces and Ava Venneri and Chelsea Ross each had kills during the run.
• From there, Lincoln got no closer than down two, 23-21. Ross with another kill put GCU at set point, and Sprankle finished it off with her third ace of the frame.
• Georgian Court again separated from Lincoln in set two, this time on the back of a 9-2 stretch. The set was tied at three-all before the run put GCU ahead 12-5. Amiyah Woods put down back-to-back kills and had three of GCU's four kills during the run.
• The Lions didn't let up and withstood a late Lincoln 4-0 run. Georgian Court scored four of the final five points, three of which came from Lincoln miscues, and took set two 25-17.
• Georgian Court led wire-to-wire in set three. They quickly raced out to an 8-3 lead helped out by back-to-back kills from Venneri and Sprankle. But Lincoln didn't go down without a fight. Lincoln used a 6-2 run to get to within one, 10-9. Lincoln got to within one on multiple occasions but were unable to tie or take the lead. 
• Up one, 19-18, GCU took over and finished the match on a 6-1 run. A Dayna Diaz service ace and Woods kill settled things for good, 25-19.

Lion Stat Leaders
• Amiyah Woods was a force up the middle connecting for a game-high 12 kills on just 18 attempts for a .611 hitting percentage.
• Chelsea Ross was just as efficient hitting .429 with seven kills on 14 attempts.
• Ava Venneri added eight kills and six digs.
• Jessica Sprankle filled out the stat sheet with six kills, eight digs and four service aces.
• Iciar Zayas handed out 22 assists to go along with four digs.
• Jana Borkovic finished with seven digs.
• Dayna Diaz collected three service aces and two assists.

For Lincoln
• Haley Loper finished with a team-best eight kills. She also chipped in five digs.
• Erica Taylor added seven kills as she and Loper combined for 15 of Lincoln's 24 total kills.
• Janaa Smith passed out 10 assists with three digs.
• Jaida Lumpkin added seven assists and a team-best eight digs.

• Georgian Court's .260 attack percentage was their highest in a match this season.
• Dayna Diaz set a season-best with three service aces.
• Amiyah Woods surpassed 10 kills for the first time this season.
• The Lions have now played five straight matches that have been decided in three sets.
