PHILADELPHIA (Sept. 22, 2022) - A goal in the closing minutes against Holy Family sent Georgian Court Men's Soccer to a 2-1 loss Wednesday evening. The loss sets the Lions at 2-6 this season and 1-3 in the CACC.
How it Happened
• Georgian Court controlled much of the offensive play with 19 shots to the Tigers 12. In the first half GCU outshot the Tigers by five, 11-6.
• The Lions also held the edge in corner kicks 7-3.
• For the match, Holy Family committed 20 fouls and were called for three yellow cards while the Lions picked up 13 fouls and were issued four yellows.
• The match started with a flurry of fouls, five of them in the first 150 seconds.
• Holy Family had the first scoring chance, a shot and a corner kick in the seventh minute but didn't push anything on net.
• After a lot of play in the middle of the field, Holy Family's Gavin Rowan scored the game's first goal in the 13th minute.
• The goal seemed to spark the GCU offense.
Mikey Mallon got off consecutive shots which started a streak of seven straight GCU shots. Only one of which was on net though which HFU goalkeeper Luke Shank pushed away.
• Holy Family looked to add a goal late in the half getting consecutive shots off, but
Andres Manzano made saves on both to keep it a 1-0 match at the half.
• The Tigers started the second half taking three shots with two on net which Manzano made saves on.
• Nearly 20 minutes into half number two,
Logan Romero found the equalizer and the match was tied at one.
• Following the goal, the Lions kept up the pressure with three more shots, including another from Romero, none of which made it through the pipes.
• With less than seven minutes remaining, Holy Family took just their second shot since Romero's game-tying goal and made it count. Sean Touey beat Manzano for the go-ahead goal.
