Lions Pick Up a Point in CACC Draw

PHILADELPHIA (Sept. 22, 2022) - Georgian Court Women's Soccer went on the road and picked up a point in conference play with a 0-0 draw at Holy Family. The Lions have earned a point in three of four conference matches standing at 1-3-4 overall and 0-1-3 in the CACC.

How it Happened
• Holy Family applied the early pressure, outshooting Georgian Court 11-2 in the first half. Only three of those 11 came on net, which GCU goaltender Alyssa Dias turned aside.
• Things were more evenly matched in a second half that featured much more offense. HFU attempted 14 shots, seven on goal and GCU got off 13, five on net.
• Holy Family totaled 10 corner kicks while the Lions earned six.
• Fouls were even with the Tigers committing five and the Lions four, all in the first half.
• In the first 10 minutes of play, Holy Family connected for four shots and one corner kick. None of the shots made it onto net however.
• Dias made her first save at the 15 minute mark, moving low to her left.
• Georgian Court got their first shot on net in the 25th minute. Krystal Hund forced Tiger goalkeeper Brianna Pudlo to make a save.
• Holy Family had an opportunity with 10 minutes remaining in the half. A save by Dias resulted in a corner kick for Holy Family. They were able to get a second shot off following the set piece but it trickled wide out of harms way.
• The Tigers stayed the aggressor to start the second half. After a Jordyn Nelson shot missed wide, Holy Family raced upfield and got a shot off of their own. The Tigers maintained possession and got off seven consecutive shots. Three were on net, all stopped by Dias.
• In the 73rd minute, GCU had a scoring opportunity with shots coming from Ashley Merizalde and Sydney Kulenguski, the later of which resulted in a corner kick. Nothing came from the corner though and the match remained scoreless.
• The final 10 minutes turned into a frenzy with both teams looking to break the tie. Hund got another shot off that was saved by Pudlo and led to a GCU corner, but the Lions couldn't get anything else towards the net.
• Dias was tested at the end but made two big saves to keep the Tigers off the board.
• In the final three minutes, Marin Kulenguski ripped a pair of shots that were saved by Pudlo. Izzy Hernandez's shot led to a corner that Jane Paschen got a piece of with just five seconds left, but stayed out of the net as the final buzzer sounded.

Lion Stat Leaders
• Diaz was the star for GCU making 10 saves.
• Krystal Hund had a team-high five shots and three on net.
• Marin Kulenguski added two shots on goal.
• Emily Clayton played a full 90 minutes and added a shot on net.

• Madison Maguire and Allison Loper each had five shots. Three of Maguire's made it on net.
• Jacqueline Ziegler and Brynn Hess each had a pair of shots on net.

News and Notes
• Krystal Hund returned to the Lions last Saturday making her season debut and made her first start against the Tigers.
• With four shutouts Alyssa Dias now leads the CACC.
• Dias is also second in saves with 48, one behind the league leader. Her .800 save percentage is the highest among goalkeepers with at least 600 minutes played.
• Among CACC teams with four conference matches played, GCU is the only one to record points in at least three of the four.
• The Lions have now played to back-to-back scoreless draws. It's the first time since at least 2002, as far back as immediate records go.
• GCU has also played to three scoreless draws in the last four matches. Three scoreless draws in a single season is also a first since at least 2002.
• With the elimination of regular season overtime, draws are more common than ever. The last time GCU had even two scoreless draws in the same season was 2014.

Up Next
• Georgian Court starts a five-match homestand Saturday, Sept. 24 taking on Felician. It's part of a doubleheader with the Lion men. Kick off for the women's match is set for 12 p.m.
