Two Second-Half Goals Doom Lions

LAKEWOOD, N.J. (Sept. 24, 2022) - Georgian Court Women's Soccer broke their scoreless streak with a goal in the opening half against Felician, but gave up two in the second half as the Golden Falcons took down GCU 2-1.

How it Happened
• Georgian Court controlled play for much of the 90 minutes. They outshot the Golden Falcons 18-8, including a 13-4 advantage in shots on goal.
• The Lions also had an edge in total corner kicks, 4-1.
• Felician was called for 11 fouls and three yellow cards. Georgian Court was called for just seven fouls, two in the second half.
• Georgian Court tested Felician goalkeeper Karlie Cabrera early. Krystal Hund got a shot on net in the third minute and Aliya Canfield got a header off in the 12th, both of which were saved by Cabrera.
• One of the bigger stories of the first half was the number of offsides called. Felician played a high defensive line and GCU was called offsides six times in the first half. In a span of 8:32 seconds, GCU was called offsides five times.
• The Lions finally broke though in the 32nd minute. Emily Clayton's pass found Brianna Hills who took a couple steps and buried it to the left for the game's first goal.
• Lion goalkeeper Alyssa Dias made her first save of the day near the end of the first half. She got in front of Katinka Ummels' shot in the 42nd minute.
Jane Paschen got one final shot off in the 44th minute for GCU, but Cabrera was there for the stop and the half ended with the Lions up 1-0.
• Each team got off just one shot in the first 15 minutes of half number two. In the 62nd minute, the Golden Falcons had their best scoring chance of the day and didn't miss. Carlie Koziol's pass found Ummels who took a step to her left and beat Dias to the the match at one.
• The goal seemed to spark the Lion offense who applied serious pressure in the 10 minutes following the goal. Aliya Canfield's header was stopped shortly after the goal. Cabrera then made saves on Jessica Ford and Paschen to keep the game tied.
• GCU earned a corner kick and off the set piece the Lions were once again called for offsides before getting a shot off.
• Nearing the end of regulation, a long feed from Kate Braun was put in front of the net and Carlie Koziol headed it past Dias for the Golden Falcons' first lead, 2-1.
• The Lions peppered the net with shots in the final 10 minutes, six of them, but Cabrera came up with three saves to secure the win.
