Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Lions Downed by Regionally Ranked Queens University

FLUSHING, NY (Sept. 27, 2022) - Georgian Court Men's Soccer went on the road to take on Queens University, ranked sixth in the east region. The Knights defense swarmed the Lions all night and all it took was one goal for a 1-0 Queens win. GCU is now 2-7-1 on the season. The nonconference match means the Lions are still 1-3-1 in the CACC.

How it Happened
• Georgian Court was outshot in the contest 11-5. The Lions managed just one shot on goal while Queens put six on net.
• Queens also had the edge in corner kicks, 8-2.
• The Lions drew 11 Queens fouls and the Knights were called for two yellow cards. GCU meanwhile committed just four fouls and were issued one yellow card.
• The opening 45 saw just six total shots and only one made it's way on goal.
• Queens earned two corner kicks just four minutes into the match, and got a shot off on the second, but it was blocked before it reached the net.
• The next shot didn't occur until the 23rd minute which missed wide.
• The two teams were busy wearing out the middle of the field for most of the half. Neither team was unable to get a serious offensive push as both defenses were on top of their game.
• A foul on the Knights in the 35th minute allowed a GCU free kick. Rhys Cotter got the Lions first shot towards the net in the half but missed wide left.
• Georgian Court put together their best offensive spurt near the end of the frame. Brandon Sogness had a shot blocked and it led to a corner kick, but the Lions couldn't capitalize.
• With just 1:44 to play in the half, Queens got a shot off low and on net, but Sotirios Gkosdis was up to the task making the games first save.
• Queens didn't need much time to break through in the second half. Finlay Armond took a feed from Leo Pinto and went high right for the first goal just over three minutes into the half.
• The Lions quickly got an opportunity following the goal, but Joseph Ficarotta missed right.
• Looking to make it 2-0, Queens ripped two shots on Gkosdis, but he was in the right position making back-to-back saves as Armond tried for his second of the match.
• Georgian Court's first shot on net came with just 17 seconds left to play. A yellow card led to a GCU free kick and Sebastian Moralez's shot was in position to tie, but Dario Cruz kept it out of the net and the horn sounded the end of the match.
