Lions Back in the Win Column With Dominating Performance at Alliance

JERSEY CITY, NJ (Jan. 8, 2023) - Following back-to-back losses, Georgian Court Men's Basketball came out firing on all cylinders in their matchup at Alliance. GCU started the game on a 17-2 run and never trailed in their 64-44 win. The win improves the Lions to 8-6 this season and 4-1 in the CACC.

How it Happened

• Team numbers were even for the most part. The biggest difference being the shooting percentages and putting the ball in the basket.
• Christian Armstrong-Thomas got the scoring started with a layup two minutes into the game. That started a 17-2 Lion run to start the game. Five different Lions scored during the stretch with Jamaal Waters' and Jelani Jackson's five points led the way.
• The lead stayed around 15 the rest of the first half with both teams trading baskets. Clint Wright, Jr. splashed a three and Wright, Jr. and Cameron Edmonds went back-to-back giving the Lions a 29-14 lead with two minutes left to play and Georgian Court took a 31-16 lead into the half.
• The second half started with a GCU bang. Jalen Bates found Waters who flushed the pass home for the ally-oop dunk as the Lions pushed their lead to 17, 33-16.
• Alliance though used a 16-7 run to get to within single digits, 41-32, midway through the half.
• Still leading by nine, 44-35, Jamaal Waters slammed another dunk and that started a 6-0 Lions run. GCU extended that with a Hassan Jackson three and Jalen Bates floater to an 11-3 run and 55-37 lead.
• Georgian Court was content to trade baskets as time wound down on their 64-44 win.

It Was Over When...
• Thanks to a 16-7 run, Alliance cut the Lions lead down to single digits, but GCU responded with an 11-3 run of their own capped off by a Hassan Jackson three and Jalen Bates floater on back-to-back possessions as the Lions went back up 16 late in the half.
