WILMINGTON, Del. (Oct. 11, 2023) - Georgian Court Volleyball picked up their second consecutive win and moved above .500 with a 3-1 win at Goldey-Beacom. The Lions took down the Lightning in four sets 25-14, 25-19, 13-25, 25-13. The win puts them at 9-8 on the season and evens their conference record at 4-4.
How it Happened
• For the match GCU hit .100 points better than the Lightning at .286-.182.
• GCU hit 59 kills and the Lightning 49.
• Defensively the Lions put back three blocks with 47 digs and GBC hit two blocks with 44 digs.
• On the serve, Goldey-Beacom landed 10 aces, but also hit 11 errors. The Lions were even with eight aces and eight errors.
Set 1
• The opening set started out with both teams trading points tied up at 6-6.
• Georgian Court went on a 5-0 run, getting three kills from
Amiyah Woods for an 11-6 lead.
• The Lions never gave up the lead, pushing it to 10, 22-12 and winning 25-14 on a Lightning attack error.
• Goldey-Beacom hit -.033 for the set with five kills and six attack errors.
Set 2
• After starting out tied at 2-2, the Lions took a 10-4 lead.
• Goldey-Beacom stormed back though getting to within one, 14-13.
• That's as close as they got though as the Lions scored seven straight points forcing a timeout.
• GBC tried again to mount a comeback, but it was too little, too late and the Lions went up 2-0 with a 25-19 set win.
• Georgian Court landed 15 kills in the set while hitting .312.
Set 3
• Goldey-Beacom got back into it with a win in set three.
• They got on top 6-1 and led the rest of the way.
• The lead got up to 10, 18-8, and the Lightning won by 12, 25-13.
• The Lions hit -.043 for the set while the Lightning hit a match-high .355.Â
Set 4
• With the set tied at three, Georgian Court took over with a 7-2 run.
• They pushed the lead to 16-9 and cruised to a 25-13 win.
• The Lions hit a match-high 16 kills in the set and .560 with just two attack errors.
