Lions Tripped Up at Bridgeport

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (Oct. 28, 2023) - Looking to get back on track after their first CACC loss of the season, Georgian Court Women's Soccer suffered another one-goal loss this time at the hands of Bridgeport, 2-1. The loss puts the Lions at 3-2-5 in conference play and 4-6-6 overall.

How it Happened
• Bridgeport was in control on offense leading 17-6 in shots and 7-3 in shots on goal.
• The Lions didn't have a single shot in the first half as Bridgeport fired off 10.
• Corner kicks also favored the Purple Knights 4-2.
• In a game without any cards, Bridgeport was called for nine fouls and Georgian Court five.
• It didn't take long for Bridgeport to get on the board. They scored in the 10th minute on what was already their fourth shot of the game.
• A cross into the box from Solune Moll found Erika Mazza who's header redirected it into the net for the early lead.
• Georgian Court wasn't able to generate much offensively in the first half, but surrendered just the one goal and trailed 1-0 after 45 minutes.
• The Lion offense picked up in the second half. Chiamaka Wokocha took two shots in the first six minutes that tested the Bridgeport netminder for the first time.
• Georgian Court was getting closer and finally broke through in the 61st minute.
• A through pass sprung Seanna Boan who carried the ball into the box. With the Bridgeport defense closing in around her, she deftly dished to a streaking Abby Kennelly who one-timed it into the net for the game-tying goal.
• Bridgeport was quick to respond and took the lead back not 10 minutes later.
• Kate Thill received a pass between two defenders in at the top of the box. She touched around the GCU goaltender who stepped out high, spun around to maintain possession and flicked it short side off a Lion defender and into the net.
• Now leading 2-1, Bridgeport kept the pressure on. The GCU defense didn't let it the Purple Knights take a two-goal lead, but the Lions managed just one shot the rest of the way that wasn't on target and the Purple Knights came away with the 2-1 win.
