LAKEWOOD, NJ (Oct. 28, 2023) - Georgian Court Volleyball found themselves in a 2-1 hole going into the fourth set. They got down early in the fourth, but came back to win set four and carried that momentum into the fifth to complete the comeback, 3-2 over Felician (25-18, 23-25, 23-25, 25-15, 15-8). The win snapped a brief two-game losing streak and evened up their conference record at 6-6. They are 12-10 overall.
How it Happened
• Georgian Court scored 79 points in the match and led Felician in nearly every category.
• The Lions hit better than .300 at .304 for the match with 59 kills. Despite hanging in for a fifth set, Felician hit just .135.
• Defensively, the Lions were also the better team with eight blocks and 83 digs while the Golden Falcons put back just six blocks and totaled 69 digs.
Set 1
• The Lions never trailed in the first set and led by as much as eight, 19-11.
• Felician was able to cut the lead down to three, 21-18 with a small rally, but that was as close as they got.
• GCU scored the final four points in the set getting kills from
Alexa Houston and
Giorgia Cappelletti and a block from
Chelsea Ross to end it.
Set 2
• Georgian Court was in the lead for the majority of the second set, only for Felician to steal it at the end.
• Tied at two, GCU went on a 13-7 run to go up by as much as six, 15-9.
• The lead stayed in the Lions favor until Felician tied the set at 17-all and took an 18-17 lead.
• Felician got ahead by three, 22-19, but the Lions rallied with three straight to tie.
• Still tied at 23, Felician got a block and kill to end the set 25-23 and even the match at one-set apiece.
Set 3
• The third set was a near replicate of the second. Georgian Court got on top early and scored six of the first seven points.
• The Lions still led by four, 18-14, but a 5-1 Golden Falcon run tied the set at 19 and they took their first lead, 21-20 on a service ace.
• Just like the second, tied again at 23, a kill and a block put things away for Felician who now controlled the match 2-1.
Set 4
• For the first time all afternoon the Lions got out to a slow start. Felician led by five early, 8-3 as GCU needed a timeout.
• But this time it was the Lions turn to come back. They evened things at nine with a 6-1 run and a ball-handling error gave GCU their first led in the set.
• They never trailed again finishing the set by outscoring the Golden Falcons 16-6.
• Leading by two, 16-14, the Lions scored eight straight with four
Martina Croce service aces.

Giorgia Cappelletti finished the set with a kill at 25-15.
Set 5
• Once again set five proved that an early lead is not insurmountable. Felician scored four of the first five points for a 4-1 lead.
• Trailing 5-2, Georgian Court scored seven straight.
Martina Croce hit two more service aces.
• Felician was never able to get into this Lion lead and they cruised to a 15-8 set five win.
• GCU hit .556 for the set while Felician was in the negative at -.125.

Giorgia Cappelletti had a team-best 15 kills and added 17 digs.

Martina Croce led the Lions with 20.5 points getting 14 kills, six aces, one block and 16 digs.

Amiyah Woods hit .474 for the match with 12 kills.

Dayna Diaz passed out 52 assists with 12 digs.

Jessica Sprankle added 17 digs with four service aces.

For the Golden Falcons
• Karla Maldonado finished with a match-high 22 kills while adding 13 digs and six service aces.
• Megan Barker had a 16-kill, 11-dig double-double.
• Sophia Watterson passed out 26 assists with 10 digs.
• Miquela Martinez had a match-high 24 digs.
News and Notes
• Since getting down 9-4 in the fourth set, Georgian Court outscored Felician 36-14.
• The Lions didn't commit an attack error in the fourth or fifth sets hitting .484 in the two combined.
• Georgian Court was in jeopardy of dropping their first ever match to Felician. The Lions are now 25-0 all-time.
• This was just the fifth time the Golden Falcons have even won a set against GCU and the first time they've won two.
• The Lions 79 points are the most in a single-match this season as are their 83 digs.
