LAKEWOOD, NJ (Oct. 7, 2023) - Georgian Court Women's Volleyball snapped a three-game losing streak in a big way Saturday afternoon in Lakewood. Playing back at home, the Lions took care of Caldwell in three sets winning 25-10, 25-20, 25-18. The win puts the Lions back even at .500 for the season at 8-8. They are also 3-4 now in CACC action.
How it Happened
• Georgian Court hit .333 or better in all three sets and .381 for the match. Caldwell was only above .000 in set two and for the game hit just .098.
• In three sets, GCU landed 44 kills, averaging nearly 15 per set.Â
• The Lions scored in a variety of ways also putting back four blocks and scoring 14 service aces.
• GCU's defense also outdid the Cougars racking up 44 digs to Caldwell's 25.Â
• Georgian Court was able to sideout at 55% or better in all three sets. Caldwell was above 40% in just one set.Â
Set 1
• The first frame set the tone for the entire afternoon. It was all Lions from the get-go. They scored the first five points and never looked back.
• GCU built their lead to a high of 18, 24-6. Caldwell scored four in a row to get to double-figures, but
Martina Croce ended the set with a kill.
• The Lions hit .455 for the set with 14 kills and four errors. They also landed four aces.
Set 2
• The Cougars didn't just roll over though. They fought hard in the second set and gave the Lions a scare.
• Tied at four, GCU went on a 7-0 run getting three kills from their setter,
Iciar Zayas.
• Things seemed in control, but Caldwell rallied and got to within two on a couple of occasions.Â
• After Caldwell cut the Lions lead to 21-19, a kill from
Chelsea Ross and
Jessica Sprankle service ace brought it back up to four.
• Like she did in set one,
Martina Croce was the finisher hitting kills for the Lions final two points.
Set 3
• The teams went back-and-forth for the first two points, but then the Lions scored the next six and led the rest of the way.
• Caldwell kept up, scoring five straight to make it a one-point game, 13-12 and the Lions needed a timeout. Jordan Mack served up three straight aces during the rally.
• Georgian Court started to pull away after that though ending the match on a 12-6 run.

Amiyah Woods hit seven kills in the third set on just nine swings for a .778 attack percentage.Â
Lion Stat Leaders
•
Amiyah Woods led the offense with 14 kills and just one error. She hit .765 for the match.
• Woods wasn't the only Lion to hit better than .700.
Chelsea Ross landed six kills on eight attempts for a .750 attack percentage.

Martina Croce scored 12 kills.
•
Giorgia Cappelletti did some of everything with seven kills, 10 digs, four aces and two assists.
•
Iciar Zayas averaged more than 12 assists per set, totaling 37 for the match with three kills, three digs and three aces.

Carmen Rivera paced the defense picking up 20 digs. She also helped out on offense with three service aces and four assists.
For the Cougars
• Wyette Schubert-Brown had a team-best six kills to go along with seven digs.
• Reese Sherwood totaled eight digs, seven assists and five kills.
• Jordan Mack landed five service aces and passed out nine assists.
• Amanda Schiltz hit three kills and three blocks.
