Lions Suffer Loss In First Game of Gary Miller Classic

ERIE, Pa. (Nov. 24, 2023) - Georgian Court Men's Basketball played their first game of the Gannon Tournament Friday night. They took on the number one offense in the country, in the Gannon Golden Knights and suffered a 109-66 loss on the road. It's GCU's second straight loss, putting them at 1-3 this season.

How it Happened
• Georgian Court shot better than 40% overall hit 23-54. They were just 2-7 from three and 18-23 at the line.
• Gannon attempted 82 field goals hitting 37. They were 14-36 from three and 21-26 at the line.
• Turnovers were a big issues for the Lions who lost the ball 35 times. Gannon scored 46 points off the Lions 35 turnovers.
• The Lions held the edge in rebounding 42-39. 
First Half
• After Taheen Braswell-Brown tied the game at four, Gannon took the lead scoring seven straight.
• The Lions were able to get back to within two, 16-14 with an Amari Jones layup, but again Gannon responded this time with a 13-2 run.
• The Golden Knights pushed the lead to a high of 19, 43-24 late in the half. GCU closed the period on a 7-0 run and Clint Wright, Jr.'s layup at the buzzer made it a 43-31 game at intermission.
Second Half
• Wright, Jr. started the second hitting a three and the Lions cut the lead the single digits, 43-34.
• That was the last Lion point though for nearly four minutes. In that time, Gannon scored 13 straight opening up their largest lead, 57-34.
• Georigan Court was never back into single digits again and Gannon scored 66 in the half, going on to win 109-66.

Lion Stat Leaders
• Clint Wright, Jr. scored 15 points going 4-7 overall and 6-6 at the foul line.
• Amari Jones was a rebound shy of a double-double scoring 14 with nine boards.
• Donavin Crawford came off the bench to score 11 hitting 5-9 from the field.
• Taheen Braswell-Brown score eight with five rebounds.

For the Golden Knights
• Josh Omojafo scored a game-high 16 going 7-8 at the line.
• Zach Hobbs and Nathan Schneider each scored 15.
• Mike Montano added eight with a game-high 11 rebounds. 

News and Notes
• This was the first ever meeting between the Lions and Gannon who now lead the all-time series 1-0.
• The Lions had 13 record at least five minutes.

Up Next
• Georgian Court plays the second game of the Gary Miller Classic tomorrow afternoon. They'll tip off at 5:30 against either Davenport or Lincoln (PA).
