LAKEWOOD, NJ (March 1, 2023) - Georgian Court Men's Lacrosse played their third ranked opponent of the season and second in the top-10 Wednesday afternoon against No. 4 Adelphi. The Lions got up early, but the Panthers proved too much in a 24-4 win. Georgian Court is 1-3 on the season.
How it Happened
• Adelphi was in the offensive zone most of the afternoon. They fired 52 shots putting 37 on net and scoring 24 times. Georgian Court put 10 of their 19 shots on goal.
• Georgian Court won the face-off battle 17-15.
• The Lions though turned the ball over 24 times to Adelphi's 15.Â
• Georgian Court converted on their only extra-man opportunity of the game and killed off all 2:30 of the Panthers' man-up opportunities.
•
Daniel Burnham got the scoring started beating the keeper just 29 seconds into the game.
• It didn't take long for the Panthers to respond. They evened up the game 35 seconds later.
• The Lions got two more goals less than a minute apart.
Brett Bridges scored at 12:51 in the first and
Joe Zerr, on the man-advantage, made it 3-1 just 37 seconds later.
• From there, it was all Adelphi. They finished the first scoring the final five goals and went on a stretch scoring 19 straight.
• Early in the second quarter with Adelphi leading 7-3, the Lions killed off a two-minute, non-releasable penalty and seemed to grab some momentum. However after killing off the penalty, a turnover gave the ball back to the Panthers who scored just 12 seconds after the penalty expired for an 8-3 lead.
• The Panthers blanked the Lions in the second period taking an 11-3 lead into the half. They again kept GCU off the board as they extended their lead to 19-3 through three quarters.
• In the fourth, Bridges picked up his second goal of the game, 31 seconds into the period. Adelphi tacked on five more to get to the 24-4 final.
