Lions Sweep Doubleheader With Pair of Run-Rule Shutouts

LAKEWOOD, NJ (March 30, 2023) - Georgian Court closed out the month of March in dominant fashion. After two postponements pushed the Lions doubleheader back with Alliance to this afternoon, Georgian Court made sure to bring the bats scoring 30 runs on 32 hits while also not allowing a run. The wins are the first two in conference for the Lions who improve to 18-10 overall and 2-2 in the CACC.

Game 1 - Georgian Court 17, Alliance 0 - 5 Innings
How it Happened

• The Lions spattered 18 runs across four innings at the plate scoring 17 runs.
• GCU took advantage of three Alliance errors .
• Lion pitchers gave up just four hits and two walks.
• Despite all those baserunners for GCU, they only left four on base.
• Of the Lions 18 hits, eight were for extra bases and the Lions swiped five bags.
• The scoring started in the first as Kaitlyn Stufft's ground ball allowed Adriana Mungo to cross the plate for a 1-0 lead.
• GCU made it 4-0 in the third thanks to RBI hits from Taylor Lipkins and Savannah Simons. Mungo drove in a run with a ground out as well.
• Then came the third. Georgian Court sent 17 to the plate in the inning and scored 13 runs on 13 hits. The first 12 batters all reached base as GCU got RBI hits from Taylor Barazza, Jordan Mendolla, Taylor Lipkins, Adriana Mungo, Savannah Simons, Kaitlyn Stufft and Brittany Gable.
• Mungo doubled twice in the inning and drove in three.
• After Maddie Rabe threw three scoreless innings, Jackie Cherry pitched the final two innings on the shutout.

Lions Stat Leaders
• Maddie Rabe got the win throwing the first three innings allowing just two hits and striking out three.
• Jackie Cherry faced eight batters and got six ground ball outs allowing just two hits and two walks over two innings.
• Every starter had a hit and either a run or an RBI.
• Taylor Lipkins, Adriana Mungo and Savannah Simons all punched three hits. Mungo drove in four.
• Jayda Jones and Brittany Gable had two hits apiece. 
• Jadalynn Rodriguez wasn't retired with two hits, a walk, three runs and two stolen bases.

For Alliance
• Janelle Adams was 2-3 with a double.
• Kaila Quick had two hits as well.
• Kate Crandall allowed four runs in two innings in relief.

Game Two - Georgian Court 13, Alliance 0 - 5 Innings
How it Happened

• The Lions went right back to work in game two. They scored 13 runs on 14 hits.
• Alliance managed just one hit in the game.
• GCU did most of their damage with small ball. Of their 14 hits, three were for extra bases with 11 singles.
• Georgian Court also drew three walks and was hit by a pitch.
• The Lions scored at least two runs in every inning. Starting with the first as the first four batters all reached base. Adriana Mungo drove in Taylor Lipkins and just two batters into the game GCU had a 1-0 lead.
• Kaitlyn Stufft and Taylor Barazza also had RBI singles and the Lions built a 4-0 lead after one.
• Georgian Court put together another four-run inning in the second. Mungo and Barazza again had RBI singles and Taylor Lipkins drove in two with a triple to right center.
• After getting the first six outs of the game, Janelle Blaszka was cruising. Leading off the third, what looked like an innocent pop fly on the infield fell between first and second. Mendolla's shovel to Stufft was late and that was the only hit for Alliance.
• GCU tacked on runs in the third and fourth innings. Stufft and Brittany Gable had RBI hits in the third and Lia DeMaio singled to drive in a run and scored on a sacrifice fly in the fourth.
• Jackie Cherry was again called upon to close out the game. She threw two perfect innings in relief.

Lion Stat Leaders
• Janelle Blaszka was nearly perfect getting the win allowing a pop-fly hit and no runs with a strikeout.
• Jackie Cherry went six-up, six-down to finish the game.
• Kaitlyn Stufft finished 3-4 with three RBI.
• Jayda Jones also drove in three runs with a triple.
• Taylor Lipkins scored three times on a hit and a walk.
• Taylor Barazza and Adriana Mungo each had two hits and two RBI.

For Alliance
• Sarah Nunez had the only hit in the game for Alliance.
• Lynnette Niebla pitched all four innings allowing 13 runs (10 earned) on 14 hits with two strikeouts.

News and Notes
• The Lions 17 runs in game one are a season-high.
• GCU has now won eight straight against Alliance.
• Jadalynn Rodriguez stole her 30th career base.
• Adriana Mungo picked up career hit 150 and drove in her 100th run.
• Brittany Gable extended her RBI streak to five straight games.
• Taylor Lipkins surpassed 50 career hits and runs.
• Taylor Barazza took her 300th career at bat for Georgian Court.

Up Next
• The Lions game with Bloomfield has been pushed back to Monday, April 3, due to heavy rain in Saturday's forecast. That means the Lions next games will be Sunday, April 2 when they head to Long Island to take on Adelphi. Those games are scheduled to start at 1 p.m.
