No. 18 Adelphi Shuts Down Lions

GARDEN CITY, NY (April 2, 2023) - Georgian Court Softball finished up their nonconference schedule on the road at No. 18 Adelphi. Adelphi displayed their top-five staff ERA shutting out the Lions in game one and allowing just one earned run in game two. The two losses put the Lions at 18-12 this season.

Game 1 - Adelphi 3, Georgian Court 0
How it Happened

• Georgian Court matched zeroes with one of the best pitchers in the nation this season through four innings.
• The Lions got off just two hits while Adelphi eventually knocked four and were able to score three late runs.
• Adelphi was helped out by four walks and the Panthers struck out 10 GCU hitters while every Adelphi at bat ended with the ball being put in play.
• Georgian Court got their first hit in the second. Jayda Jones singled to left and moved to third but was ultimately stranded there.
• Madde Rabe kept the Panthers hitless through the first three innings. Adelphi didn't get their first hit until one out in the fourth, a single to center.
• Rabe got a couple of ground balls to end the inning.
• The Lions had another scoring opportunity in the fifth. Taylor Barazza led off with a walk and pinch runner Coco Dunham stole second and eventually got to third, but once again the Lions were kept off the board.
• Adelphi broke the scoreless tie in the home half of the fifth. A leadoff double got the inning started. The Panthers were looking to move the runner over with a bunt, but a throwing error meant everybody was safe and that allowed Brianna Fischer to score.
• With the Panthers threatening to add to their lead, Rabe got three more ground balls to end the inning down just 1-0.
• Adelphi tacked on in the bottom of the sixth. Rabe walked the first two batters of the inning and they advanced on bunt. An infield single and a wild pitch gave the Panthers a 3-0 lead.
• Lindsey Hibbs finished the game with a 1-2-3 seventh for the 3-0 game one win.

• After being shut out in game one, the Lions responde with a run in the first inning of game two.
• Taylor Lipkins singled and came in to score the games first run on a fielder's choice from Savannah Simons.
• Adelphi looked poised to tie or even take the lead in the bottom of the first. They led off with a double and loaded the bases with one out, but Janelle Blaszka got a ground ball and Brittany Gable started an inning-ending double play.
• The Panthers again loaded the bases in the second and again Blaszka got out of it unscathed with a ground ball.
• For the third consecutive inning, Adelphi loaded the bases. This time GCU wasn't able to make it out. A fielder's choice and back-to-back two-out singles plated three runs for the Panthers who took a 3-1 lead.
• Adelphi made it 4-1 an inning later with a one-out double and RBI single from Courtney Wengryn.
