NEW HAVEN, Conn. (May 30, 2023) - Georgian Court Track and Field put 12 student-athletes on the latest Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) All-Academic Team. The league released the team this morning.
The Lions saw seven women make the All-Academic Team and five men joined as well. The 12 Lions are the third most of any team in the CACC and the five men are the second-highest of any men's team. Of the seven Lion women, five had a GPA of 3.90 or higher, that was the most of any team, male or female.
Yanely Bohorquez-Gonzalez made the team for the third time, tied for the most of any student-athlete. She has a 3.90 GPA as a senior Psychology major.
Julia Kirschnick is a junior with a 3.98 GPA in Psychology.
Elena Martinez-Rodriguez has 3.93 GPA and is a junior Criminal Justice major. Also studying Criminal Justice are
Jaison-Ashley Pleva and
Ingrid Rivera-Zuniga. Pleva has a 3.91 GPA as a senior and Rivera-Zuniga has a 3.69 GPA as a sophomore. This is Pleva's second All-Academic Team honor. Senior
Aniyah Russell has a 3.62 GPA in Business Administration. Junior Aliyah Thorpe is a junior with a 3.91 GPA in Psychology. Thorpe is also now a two-time All-Academic Team member.
On the men's side,
Domenico Darcy is a sophomore studying accounting with a 3.56 GPA.
Jeshurun Devero has a 3.58 GPA as a senior Communication and Digital Media major.
Joseph Sauchelli is a senior with a 3.71 GPA in Exercise Science. It's his second time making the All-Academic Team. Also making the All-Academic Team for a second time is
Kyle Spector. He has a 3.89 GPA in Psychology.
Jan Volkmar is a sophomore with a 3.96 GPA in Psychology.
In order to be eligible for the CACC All-Academic Team, student-athletes must meet a certain criteria. They must have completed at least two full semesters at their current institution, whether they are in undergraduate or graduate school. This is different from the College Sports Communicators (CSC, formerly CoSIDA) Academic All-American team where graduate transfers are eligible in their first semester at the new institution. They also need to have a minimum grade point average of 3.50 at the end of the immediate preceding term (may include summer terms).
