Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Winning Streak Ends at Eight at Caldwell

CALDWELL, NJ (Oct. 19, 2024) - It's been more than a month, but Georgian Court Men's Soccer were handed a loss Saturday afternoon. Caldwell halted the Lions winning streak at eight games with a 1-0 loss. The loss puts the Lions at 8-5-1 on the season and 6-2 in CACC play.

How it Happened
• Playing without Mikey Mallon, the Lions offense did not generate much against the Cougars. Caldwell doubled-up the Lions in shots, 22-11.
• Georgian Court also put just one shot on net while Caldwell had seven on target.
• Corner kicks were even at four apiece and fouls were split evenly too. GCU called for 11 and Caldwell 10. Each team was booked with two yellow cards.
• After each team got a shot off early, it was Caldwell who found the back of the net. Less than six minutes into the game, the Cougars were up 1-0 thanks to Rake Haakon's goal.
• The Cougars kept up the offensive pressure after the goal with four shots and two corner kicks in the next five minutes.
• Georgian Court had two successive chances around the 20 minute mark. Woodley Cagilus hit the cross bar and the ball stayed out. Gijs van Eif's header then found the arms of the Cougar goalkeeper.
• GCU's offense kept trying to break through. They earned back-to-back corner kicks, but nothing came from the set pieces.
• The Lions had some early second half chances with a shot blocked and a corner kick, but again the Cougar defense did not break.
• Very late in the game Caldwell gave GCU a handful of free kick chances with two fouls and a yellow card, but Georgian Court was unable to find the equalizer and the Cougars prevailed making the goal in the sixth minute hold up.

Lion Stat Leaders
Ayendi Batista suffered the hard luck loss making six saves.
• Gijs van Eif led the team with four shots.
Alessandro Cavallini also rattled off two shots.

For the Cougars
• Rake Haakon scored on two shots.
• Yigit Kilic and Braenden Ingebrigt each earned an assist.
• Justin Talbot only needed to make one save in goal, but it was enough to earn the win.
