CALDWELL, NJ (Oct. 19, 2024) - Georgian Court Women's Soccer has seen it's offense go quiet recently. For the third straight game, the Lions were shut out, this time in CACC action against Caldwell. The Cougars got a goal in the first half and two in the second for a 3-0 win to drop the Lions to 8-4-2 overall, 5-2 in the CACC.
How it Happened
• Each team totaled seven shots on goal, but Caldwell peppered the net more, 22-15. That included 14 second-half shots after GCU outshot Caldwell 10-8 in the first half.
• The Lions were more aggressive towards the goal line earning seven corner kicks to the Cougars two, but were unable to do anything with the opportunities.
• Georgian Court got a late yellow card but Caldwell doubled-up the Lions, 16-8, on common fouls.
• The Lions had plenty of opportunities early in this one. The ball was staying in their zone for about the first 15 minutes.
• Six of Georgian Court's 15 shots came in the opening 13 minutes along with two corner kicks. Caldwell survived that onslaught though and kept the game scoreless.
• Shortly after, the Cougars capitalized off their own corner kick. Suri Silva took the corner and found Rosio Cardenas who was able to score off the set piece for a 1-0 lead.
• Cougar goalkeeper Ariana Gaminara had to make some late saves, but after 45 minutes it was still a 1-0 Cougar lead.
• It took less than a minute for Caldwell to make it a 2-0 game. Taina Gervais did the work herself to score unassisted.
• The Cougars kept the ball in their offensive zone and threatened to pad their lead.
• Georgian Court kept it at a 2-0 game and had chances midway through the half with shots from
Chelsea Lavezzo and
Grace Konfederak that Gaminara was able to stop.
• Caldwell put the game away for good with a goal in the 89th minute which got us to the 3-0 final score.

• Ariana Gaminara earned the shut out win making seven saves.

• This is the Cougars first win over the Lions since 2019, snapping a five-game unbeaten streak.
• This is just the second time in nine matches a game has been decided by two or more goals.
• The Lions shutout streak reached an end at 373 minutes without allowing a goal.

Izzy Hernandez hit 50 and
Chiamaka Wokocha 30.

Grace Konfederak surpassed 3,000 career minutes played.Â
• Georgian Court was shutout for the third straight game. This marks the first time that's happened since the first three games in the 2023 season. GCU has now gone four straight seasons with a scoreless streak reaching three straight.
