LAKEWOOD, NJ (Oct. 2, 2024) - Georgian Court's three game winning streak came to an end Wednesday afternoon. The Lions welcomed PSAC foe East Stroudsburg and the guests scored a goal in each half for a 2-0 win. The loss is just the Lions third this season and first at home. They now stand at 6-3 overall while remaining 3-1 in the CACC.
How it Happened
• Ball control was strongly in the hands of the Warriors. They dominated total shots, 24-4 and shots on goal, 11-1.
• Georgian Court though did have the edge in corner kicks, 4-3.
• ESU was dinged for 12 foul calls and the Lions nine. Neither team was issued a card.
• East Stroudsburg came out firing, ripping off three straight shots on goal. Delanie Wilkinson was up to task making saves on all three.
• The shots kept coming from all angles and from all distances. With 15 minutes left to play in a scoreless game, Rebecca Kotula dribbled laterally, before pulling up and sending a drive towards the goal from roughly 30 yards out that she tucked into the upper left corner for the games first goal.
• Georgian Court went nearly the entire half without a shot. With about 90 seconds left, the Lions got a free kick from just outside the box.
Corissa Robbins stepped up to take the kick. Her attempt was on target and Warrior goalkeeper Emmy Clarkson needed all of her 5-11 frame to get a hand on it, and send it off the top of the crossbar and out of play.
• The Lions got the corner kick, but couldn't get another shot off and the half ended 1-0 ESU.
• ESU made it 2-0 very early in the second. it was Kotula again who took a feed from Emily Wineburg and beat Wilkinson for the brace and a 2-0 lead.
• East Stroudsburg's defense continued to make life tough on the Lions who were struggling to get shots off.
• It wasn't until the final five and a half minutes that the Lions offense was able to push forward.
• GCU had some momentum going, getting off three shots in the closing minutes, but nothing on net and time ran out with ESU holding on 2-0.
