Volleyball Four-Game Winning Streak Halted by East Stroudsburg

LAKEWOOD, NJ (Oct. 24, 2024) - Georgian Court Volleyball saw their four-game winning streak come to an abrupt end Thursday evening. The Lions welcomed East Stroudsburg to the Wellness Center for a nonconference tilt, and the visitors made themselves right at home. ESU rarely trailed on their way to a 3-0 (25-18, 25-16, 25-16) sweep. The loss drops GCU to 11-8 on the season, though they are still 8-1 in CACC play.

How it Happened
• The Warriors had an excellent afternoon hit .274 with 35 kills and just nine errors.
• The Lions slipped below a .100 hitting percentage at .087 with 29 kills and 21 attack errors.
• ESU also held an advantage on the block, accounting for some of those GCU errors. They totaled seven while the Lions put back just three.
• The Warriors were able to score on the serve as well with eight service aces. GCU hit eight service errors and just four aces.
Set 1
• The Warriors never trailed in the opening set after taking a 1-0 lead. Anna Coulter got the kill, a common theme in the match.
• Leading by one, 3-2, ESU went on a 5-1 run and forced a GCU timeout up 8-3.
• After the break, the Lions stormed back with a 5-1 run of their own to get back to within one, 9-8.
• The set hovered around one point for a bit, until ESU scored seven of eight to open up a 19-12 lead.
• They weren't threatened from there taking the opener 25-18.
• The Warriors kept GCU alive for a bit with four service errors in the frame. They hit just three in the other two sets.
Set 2
• East Stroudsburg scored the first three points of set two and never looked back.
• GCU again battled back though, and a Giorgia Cappelletti kill got them to within one, 9-8.
• The middle of the frame is where the Warriors pulled away once again. ESU used two different 5-0 runs to jump ahead for good and go up 2-0 with a 25-16 set two win.
• The Lions hit eight kills and nine attack errors for a -.029 attack percentage.
Set 3
• With three reverse sweeps on the season, Georgian Court in no way felt like they were out of it. And it showed at the start with the Lions getting up early 11-8.
• That's where things took a turn though as ESU scored the next eight points to grab the lead and go up five, 16-11.
• The Warriors finished the set on a 17-5 run and scored the final five four points to complete the sweep.
