LAKEWOOD, NJ (Oct. 29, 2024) - Georgian Court scored early and often in a 5-2 win Tuesday afternoon against Goldey-Beacom. After a seven game stretch with two or fewer goals, the Lions stormed out and put up five on the Lightning to improve to 10-4-2 on the season and 7-2 in the CACC.
How it Happened
• Aside from some late offense at the end when Georgian Court took their starters out, the Lions controlled play and were in the Lightning offensive zone.
• Georgian Court controlled the ball for 55% of the match with most of that time spent on the Lightning half of the field.
• The Lions were able to get off 22 shots with 10 on net. Goldey-Beacom fired 13 shots, hitting the net 10 times.
• Corner kicks favored the Lions, 5-2, but it was the Lightning who scored off one.
• Georgian Court stayed out of foul trouble. Goldey-Beacom was called for nine plus two yellow cards and the Lions just whistled for two common fouls.
• After a brief feeling out process at the start, Georgian Court scored nine minutes in.
Sophia Ridolfo connected with
Chelsea Lavezzo who didn't miss and got the Lions and early lead.
• Six minutes later, Ridolfo did it herself. She picked off a telegraphed pass near midfield, carried into the box and scored into the lower left corner for a 2-0 lead.
• Not even four minutes later it was Lavezzo again. This time from
Abby Kennelly who centered it to Lavezzo and she did the rest.
• The Lightning were in trouble down three, but responded with a goal shortly after. Jade Balon took a corner kick were Miley Jones got her head on it and into the goal to make it a two-goal game, 3-1 still with more than 25 minutes to play in the half.
• The scoring slowed down from there. Kennelly was stopped on a couple of shots before the end of the half and Bennett made another to keep the game at 3-1 after 45 minutes.
• Into the second half it took less than two minutes for GBC to make it a one-goal game. Ryley Dixon hit Jenna Campagna and just like that the Lions lead was down to one.
• Each goaltender made some good saves to keep it a one-goal game, but just like the first half, Georgian Court eventually broke through.
• A foul inside the box gave Lavezzo a penalty kick opportunity for a hat trick and she did not miss scoring her third of the game for a 4-2 Lion lead.
• Five minutes later in the 74th minute,
Seanna Boan made a sliding kick into the net for the Lions fifth and final goal.
• Goldey-Beacom got some pressure late when GCU emptied their bench, but the defense did not break the Lions picked up their 10 win of the season.

Chelsea Lavezzo is now in the Lions all-time top-10 for single-season goals with her 14.Â
• Lavezzo is in some impressive company. She's now tied for eighth all-time for single-season goals scored. Her 14 are the most since Krystal Hund scored 15 in 2019 and is tied for the second-most by a freshman in the NCAA with Hund in 2018. Kelly Lyons has the single-season record for goals and goals by a freshman when she debuted at GCU in 2008 with 22 goals.
• Lavezzo is also the first Lion with two hat tricks in the same season since Hund's 2018 campaign. She's the first Lion with at least four multi-goal games since Elizabeth Kroon also had four in the 2015 season. The last time a Lion have five multi-goal games in a single-season was Kelly Lyons in 2010. Lyons tallied six multi-goal games in 2009.
