Lions Put Up Five Goals For Second Straight Win

LAKEWOOD, NJ (Nov. 4, 2024) - Georgian Court Women's Soccer put up five goals for the second consecutive match as they defeated Post 5-0. It's the Lions eighth shutout win of the season as they improve to 11-4-2 on the year and 8-2 in CACC play.

How it Happened
• This was a rout in favor of Georgian Court. They held possession for 56% of the match with the ball in the offensive zone for 62% of the match.
• Shot totals heavily favored Georgian Court, 28-6. Both teams were around 50% shot accuracy in getting the ball on target.
• Foul numbers were also even at 10 apiece and each team was issued one yellow card.
• The scoring chances started early for the Lions. Although they didn't have any shots to show for it, GCU was getting heavy pressure from the jump.
• Juliana Rettino had a shot blocked and then the Lions earned a corner kick in the 10th minute. Breana Parkinson took the corner. It landed in front of the goal mouth where it bounced around untouched for a bit until Rettino was able to nudge it into the net for the game's first goal.
• Five minutes later, Grace Konfederak pushed the attack forward. She connected with Sophia Ridolfo who crossed into the box right to left and from a sharp angle beat the keeper on the short side.
• The game stayed that way for much of the rest of the half. Georgian Court was still generating opportunities, but couldn't quite finish. Rettino and Chiamaka Wokocha each narrowly missed making it a three-goal game, hitting the post.
• Late in the half, the already shorthanded Eagles were forced to play down two field players after a scary moment where two Post teammates collided. Because of those injuries and the substitution rules, they were playing two players down for significant time.
• The Lions took advantage of that with 90 seconds to play in the half. Wokocha slipped on the turf at the top right corner of the box, but was still able to get around a defender and put a shot into the upper left corner of the net for a 3-0 lead heading into half time.
• Post was able to make those substitutions to start the second half 11-on-11, but it didn't stay that way. Again because of injuries sustained they were forced to play first with nine field players, and then eight to finish the game out.
• Chelsea Lavezzo, quiet in the first half, came to life in the second. She scored twice in a span of 3:22. The first came in the 57th minute when she one-timed a centering feed from Ridolfo into the net.
• The second was a classic Lavezzo goal. Izzy Hernandez sent her deep and Lavezzo ran it down to get a breakaway where she beat the keeper for the Lions fifth goal of the match.
• Georgian Court emptied the bench, getting just about everyone some time on the field.
• Post was able to get a couple of offensive opportunities late in the game. The best came in the 81st minute when Delia Kotsaftis' rising shot hit off the crossbar and sailed out of play.
• Jaeleigh Tuccille also came up with a couple of saves to close out the game.

News and Notes

• Chelsea Lavezzo moves up to a tie for fifth place in Lions history for single-season goals now with 16. She also moved up to a tie for seventh with 34 points.
• Lavezzo is also the first Lion with five multi-goal games since Kelly Lyons in the 2010.
