KUTZTOWN, PA (Nov. 26, 2024) - The foul line was the difference maker for Kutztown Tuesday night in their 83-71 win over Georgian Court. The Golden Bears attempted 12 more and made 15 more, including each of their final 10, to turn away the Lions comeback bid and drop GCU to 0-6 on the season.
How it Happened
• Kutztown was the sharper shooting team hitting 41%/44%/87%. GCU's slash line was 38%/21%/68%.
• GCU did win the rebounding battle, 40-37 and 19-14 on the offensive glass. However, Kutztown outscored the Lions 22-16 in second-chance points.
• Turnover numbers were even with the Lions losing it 16 times and the Golden Bears 15. Kutztown also led in points off turnovers 20-16.
• Georgian Court was able to get a piece of six Kutztown attempts.
1st Half
• On their first possession,
Amari Jones buried a three-pointer to give the Lions a 3-2 lead.
• Kutztown took the lead right back following an offensive rebound and never trailed again the rest of the half.
• The Golden Bears built their lead to seven, 17-10, with 13:33 to play.
• Both teams then went cold from the field. For the next 5:04, the two teams combined for a total of six points and Kutztown led 19-14.
• But the rest of the half, was a flurry of offense.
• It started with a Kutztown three to take their largest lead, 22-14.
• Georgian Court responded with three-pointers on back-to-back possessions from
Jacob Santiago and
Donavin Crawford to pull within two, 24-22 with 6:38 left in the half.
• The teams traded baskets for the rest of the half. In the final 1:51, Georgian Court used a 7-3 run to trail by just one, 36-35.
• On the final play of the half,
Justin Harper took the sideline inbounds from half court. His lob found
Taheen Braswell-Brown in front of the basket, who caught and kissed the ball off the glass and into the basket as the half expired.
2nd Half
• Georgian Court tied the game early in the second half, but the Golden Bears answered with an 8-0 run over 2:47 to jump ahead 44-36.
• The Lions started the half 1-9 from the floor as Kutztown pushed their lead to double-figures.
• GCU got back in scoring seven points in 25 seconds.
Caleb Mims hit a pair at the line and
Cam Edmonds came up with two steals and scores, the second of which a three-ball, to trim a 54-44 deficit to 54-51 with 12:41 left.
• Georgian Court had a chance to tie with a little over six minutes left to play, but went 0-2 at the line, and at the other end, Kutztown scored a layup to extend the lead back to four, 65-61.
• With 3:38 to play, Edmonds scored four straight on his own to tie the game at 67.
• On the other end though, an offensive rebound led to a long Kutztown three as they regained the lead, 70-67 with three minutes remaining.
• Kutztown hit another deep three and Georgian Court started to play the fouling game.
• The Golden Bears went 8-8 in the final 1:39 and put the Lions away, 83-71.

Amari Jones scored 12 on 3-5 shooting with four rebounds.

Cam Edmonds finished with 21 points making 8-10 at the line with three rebounds, three assists and four steals.

Donavin Crawford added 17 going 6-15 with three three-pointers.

Taheen Braswell-Brown led the Lions with seven rebounds and scored six points.

Justin Soranno scored eight with six rebounds and three blocked shots.
For the Golden Bears
• Jalen Bryant poured in 29 on 8-18 shooting and 10-11 at the foul line.
• Kameron Roberts scored 12 points with a team-best seven rebounds.
• Tyler Koenig was 5-7 for 13 points.
• Jaiden McGhee added 12 with six rebounds and a pair of assists.

• This is the Lions first ever loss to the Golden Bears. They've played each of the last three years and are now 2-1 all-time.
• This was the first time GCU has won the rebounding battle all season.
• The last time a GCU opponent made 30 or more free throws was St. Thomas Aquinas on Nov. 29 of last year. However, that was the first time ever and Kutztown's 32 are a new record allowed by the Lions.
