LAKEWOOD, NJ (Dec. 22, 2024) - Georgian Court may not have ever led in their 69-63 loss Saturday afternoon to No. 7 Fairmont State, but they had the top-10 ranked team on the ropes for most of it. Georgian Court never quit and hung around for a while before time ran out on the upset bit.
How it Happened
• Georgian Court's defense gave the Falcons trouble, holding the usually high-powered offense to just 69 points on 31% shooting and 16% from three.
• The Lions shot the ball much better, connecting at 46% overall, 6-22 from behind the arc.
• Fairmont State did work at the free throw line where they went 22-28. Georgian Court struggled hitting 13-19.
• The Falcons, after getting outrebounded in their first loss of the season during the week, went hard on the glass. They won the rebounding battle this time 47-32, including a 20-3 disparity on the offensive end.
• All those offensive rebounds though didn't lead to many points as each team scored seven second-chance points.
• Turnovers is where the Falcons took advantage. They forced 24 from the Lions and turned those into 28 points. GCU scored 17 points off of 19 Falcon giveaways.
1st Half
• Fairmont State was off and running with two quick three-pointers in the first minute. They only hit three more the final 39 minutes though.
• Two three's from
Miles White tied the game up at six before the Falcons were able to reclaim the lead.
• Tied again at 11, Fairmont State went on a 13-5 run and looked like they were about to take over up eight.
• They pushed the lead to as high as 13 with 1:17 to play in the half, but White scored four points in 40 seconds to get the lead into single digits, 36-27 at the break.
2nd Half
• The Falcons started the second half strong as well scoring nine of the first 11 points and building their largest lead, 45-29, two minutes into the half, forcing an early Lion timeout.
• GCU chipped away and a three from
Cam Edmonds brought the lead into single digits, 46-38.
• With 12:41 to play, White buried another triple and it was a one-possession game, 46-43.
• Fairmont responded with five quick points and it looked like they might have settled in, but the Lions were resilient.
• Just past the midway point,
Khalil Baker made it a one-point game with a layup, 53-52.
• Georgian Court had plenty of opportunities to tie or take the lead, but the Falcons defense stood strong each time.
• With just over a minute left to play, White again made it a one-point game, 64-63, with a three-pointer.
• David Jolinder answered with a layup and the free throw from a foul to push the lead back to four, before the Falcons put the game away at the free throw line.
