DOBBS FERRY, NY (Sept. 11, 2024) - Georgian Court Women's Soccer sought to begin a season 3-0 for the first time since 2014. That attempt did not come to pass as the Lions suffered a 3-1 defeat in their first road contest at Mercy.
How it Happened
• Mercy controlled play in the offensive zone and out-shot Georgian Court 14-5 and 10-3 in shots on goal.
• The field was especially tilted in the first half when the Mavericks out-shot GCU 11-2.
• Foul calls were even with the Lions whistled just once more, nine times to eight.
• The Mavericks didn't need long to get an early lead. Ancksu Dixon scored first putting a ball in the upper right corner in the sixth minute.
• Soon after, Mercy made it a 2-0 game with Dixon this time dishing to Amiah Washington into the box for the Mavericks second goal.
• Mercy kept the pressure one, getting off two more shots shortly after the second goal that Lion goalkeeper Delanie Wilkinson made stops on.
• Georgian Court put only one shot on net the rest of the half and the Mavericks were up 2-0 after the first 45.
• Just like the first half, Mercy scored quickly to start the second. Seven minutes in Dixon with another assist, this time to Hailey Metzger for a 3-0 lead.
• After a lot of play in midfield, Georgian Court finally broke through.
Seanna Boan hit
Abby Kennelly to get the Lions on the board in the 64th minute.
• That was all for GCU though as the Mavericks held the Lions without a even a shot the rest of the way in the 3-1 win.
